Add Humor in Your Life

Updated on October 7, 2011

You have heard about laughter therapy where people join as a group just to laugh aloud. All your nerves get loosened when you laugh loudly. Humor is to be shared with someone to make them happy. Adding humor in your life brings lot of physical advantages apart from reducing mental tension. It helps reduce stress related hormones and enhances immunity. When you laugh aloud, pain decreases and laughing therapy saves you from the harmful effects of stress.

Laughing is priceless and carries a high value. Unless you stay mentally healthy, your physical health will not improve. Your mood and emotions dominates your physical health and to stay fit you should add humor in your life. It will boost up your mood at home or in the workplace and immediately helps relieve you of stress. Humor also reduces anxiety and fear and strengthens your mind to fight against any disease.

Your whole body gets relaxed when you laugh aloud. Do not confuse a smile with laughing aloud. A healthy laugh relaxes your muscles more than any workout. You will stay focused at work after laughing for a few minutes. Good humor is enough to bring back the lost balance in mind and body.

In addition to relaxing muscles humor strengthens the immune system by reducing the stress hormones. Your body will automatically produce good chemicals like endorphins which is necessary for the well-being of a person. It improves the circulation of blood-flow which indirectly is good for your heart.

Humor is powerful tool to heal disagreements and resentments in office and relationship. Since it triggers positive feelings it bonds you with the person whom you are sharing humor. Even during tough moments a small smile in your face is enough to bring back the lost happiness.

It is also important in interaction with other people. It helps in improving socialization skills. Having a good sense of humor is an advantage when navigating the intricacies of social interaction and relationships with other people.

Humor and Positive Attitude towards Life

Laughing gives you courage and vigor to find new hope even during difficult times such as the current bad state of the global economy. Humor helps in developing a positive attitude towards life which gives new hope and ideas to live. A loud laugh is absolutely necessary when you are disappointed or facing difficult situations. It helps you to gather strength to think up as solution for the problem and to move on, forgetting your worries and ready to face the challenges ahead.

Regardless of your economic situation, you can practice humor and laughing therapy. It opens a new perspective to the existing situation and you can think realistically with the proper motivation to solve the problem. Further, it creates a sense of well-being and a psychological release from tension. You will undoubtedly release inhibitions when you laugh and it removes fear and anxiety. You can boldly express any deep emotions when you are in humorous state.

You may find yourself out of a job, suffer a decrease in salary or increment during an economic recession. This is the time you need to be able to laugh to stay healthy. You can use humor as a valuable tool to fight against headaches, stress and depression. It helps you to think rationally and make more deliberate and effective decisions. You will be able to focus your attention, gather strength and think about novel ideas if you still retain the capacity to laugh aloud.

Lose your sense of humor or ability to laugh under hard circumstances and you will be overwhelmed by negativity and lose the capacity to find a way out of your situation. Humor is your best weapon against desperation, or worse, the loss of hope.

phdast7, thank you for your comment on the existence of numerous research studies validating the benefits and value of laughter to our well-being.

tarajeyaram, laughter is indeed priceless. That's why a guy with a sense of humor is tops in my book. Thank you for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the hub.

jeyaramd, one could say that laughter is universal. Something people could easily understand and identify with, I guess this is what makes humor and laughter as a very effective means by which to "break the ice" or even defuse tense situations. Thanks for sharing that very nice insight of yours.

There is nothing like using humor to break the tension. It remind me of a stand-up comedian named Russel Peters. I remember one episode where he talked about a serious courtroom drama. And suddenly, one of the lawyers broke the tension with an accent. Its funnier when you see the video. Anyway, comedy videos and shows are great mood boosters at the end of a working day. Voted up. Great hub.
