Anger Management: Tips to Control Anger
SLOW BREATHING
GET SOME EXERCISE
Exercise can help to calm nerves and reduce anger. Go for a walk, ride your bike, go on a drive or hit a few golf balls. Do anything that gets your limbs pump. It will relax your mind and body which reduces anger.
STOP TALKING
When we are angry our mind is not relaxed so it’s better to keep quiet at that moment. It doesn’t necessary to respond in that situation. Take a few moments to relax your mind before saying anything. These moments without speaking gives time to collect thoughts.
RESPOND WISELY
Wait until you have calmed down from your anger and then express yourself in calm and different way. Be assertive without being aggressive.
FORGIVE -DON’T HOLD GRUDGES
Accept that everybody has different feelings, beliefs and behaviours. Try to be realistic and accept that people are the way they are.
Don’t hold grudges and try to forgive even if they are not sorry for their actions. People don’t change and holding grudges just increases our anger. Accept the fact that we cannot change people behaviours or thoughts but we can control our anger and deal with them in a positive attitude.
FIND CREATIVE WAY
Turn your anger into tangible production. Find creative ways to release tension. Making music, dancing, painting, gardening, writing poetry reduce feelings of anger. Emotions are powerful muses for creative individuals.
