Best Healthy Cooking Magazines

Updated on August 14, 2011

If your healthy cooking is in a proverbial rut, then what it needs is a good shot in the arm with some new ideas and menus. Investing in new cookbooks can be expensive and may only yield a few recipes that you will actually ever use. My solution? I have turned to the healthy cooking hybrid magazine which offers seasonally inspired new recipes on a monthly basis, makeovers of your very favorite comfort foods, and step-by-step cooking techniques. Most also focus on other aspects of a healthy lifestyle, whether it be exercise, good nutrition, or travel. I have chosen four of my favorite magazines, each of which has its’ own website that you can access and peruse for new ideas. To illustrate how simple it is to use these magazines’ websites, I have chosen a recipe from each in order to create a Thai dinner, complete with appetizer, main course and of course, dessert.

Cooking Light is probably a magazine that many have read. I have been a fan of theirs for many years and have a whole personal archive of my favorites. I have chosen my appetizer, Asian Style Veggie Rolls from their August 2010 issue. They will provide a crunchy and fresh starter for this dinner.

Vegetarian Times boasts that it has the world’s largest collection of vegetarian recipes and I believe it. From their vast collection I have selected Caribbean Coconut Rice for the base of my main course. I have used this recipe countless times and find that my guests are always pleasantly surprised when they smell the delicious aroma of the rice cooking, then taste it’s delicate flavor.

Clean Eating is one of those magazines that when I purchased and read it, I found that I wanted to make every recipe in it. Not only that, I think I salivated over most of them. They are providing the main course, the very delicious Thai Coconut Shrimp.

Eating Well When you eat well, you need to finish well. That’s why this magazine is serving up our final course, the dessert, with a light and refreshing Peach-Lime Sorbet.

A final word. The recipes in all of these magazines come with complete nutritional information so that you can make sound decisions regarding your diet. No more wondering about how many calories, how much fat. I hope that you enjoy cooking from these magazines as much as I do.
