Bring It: P90X Day 23

Updated on December 29, 2011

P90X is an extreme workout created by Tony Horton. If you are looking to get into the best shape of your life, this might be the program you have been searching for. I am trying this program to see what results the average here (not the superstar athlete) can obtain from this workout. I want to test it - see if it works or if it is just another TV gimmick trying to get me to spend my hard earned cash. At the end of the 90 days, I should be a whole new person!

Feel free to leave your insights and your comments below. Together, we can make this world a healthier place.

Bring It

It doesn't seem to matter how late I seem to put my son to bed, he seems to be waking up each day earlier and earlier. That does not work well for me. It means that my workout gets disrupted. Anybody who has kids knows how difficult it is trying to get something done with them completely under foot. Add working out to this scenario, and it is even more difficult. Not to mention, I was already a little nervous about this workout because it is the first time I had to done Core Synergistics with the P90X system.

So, today I had a little workout buddy. He didn't last long; in fact, he only got through the warm up. But at least he gave it a try. And, he also got a little underfoot. But, I was a little greatful for the distraction, because let me tell you - this was one tough workout!

This workout is going to be difficult for any average person. For me, because of my past issues with my stomach, this was even harder for me. I did what I could. I even found some of the exercises to be fun... in a sadistic kind of way. Overall, it was nice to have a change up.

Day 2 of Recovery week is over and done with. This workout will be done one more time this week. Right now, I am feeling it; I can't say I am looking forward to doing this twice.

So....

What do you think

Do you work out your core muscles?

See results

What is Core Synergistics

Core Synergistics is all about that band in your mid section. It is about working out the core will incorporating your entire body. You will be touching on a little cardio, some stretching and even resistance training, all to get those core muslces into a strong foundation.

This program is incorporated into the P90X workout for many reasons. It is meant to improve your flexibility, balance and coordination, but overall, will help improve your ability to do all the other workouts in this program. Core synergistics is all about total-body development. With a strong core, you will be less likely to suffer injury and you will be able to expose that six-pack you have always wanted!

This workout is an hour long, typical of most P90X workouts. While you will be throwing in a few variations of pushups and squats in there, you will also be introduced to a few new exercises as well. One of my favorite (and one heck of a good core strenghtener) is the Banana Roll.

Oh Bananas!

Putting your body in a position that resembles a banana is a great way to work the entire midsection.
Putting your body in a position that resembles a banana is a great way to work the entire midsection.

The Banana Roll is an odd type workout, but it will hurt - in a good way. To do this exercise, you lie on your back, with your amrs stretched straight out about 6 to 12 inches off the floor. This will have your body resembling the curve in a banana. Stay in that position for about 5 seconds. Roll to the side, hold; roll to your stomach, hold; roll to your other side, hold; roll onto your back into the original starting position and hold. That is one rep and you should do the entire thing while maintaining form. Repeat the process.

Another variation of this is the Superman Banana. Start on your back in a "banana position" and roll all the way over onto your stomach maintaining form so you are in a superman position. Both exercises are great for the entire core workout. Try it. You might find it fun!

My thoughts

Overall, this really is a great muscle. I can even feel my six pack starting to explode out. To bad it is covered by a few layers of fat. But hopefully, with all that I have been doing, this is just another way to melt the stuff off and start really showing off how strong this body really is.

This workout, like I said earlier, is difficult for me. Since I had surgery on my stomach, I have to be really careful with the abdominal workouts that I do. Therefore, I did what I could, but I didn't push it. I have learned from experience that if I work out my midsection too hard, I will be out for the count for several days. To avoid injury, I did modify some of the moves to fit my needs. Feel free to do the same, especially if you are just starting.

Remember, when it comes to working out, it is best to keep moving. If you can't do a particular exercise, do your best and try again later. The point is, we want to stay away from injury. Pushing yourself harder than what your body can handle will only set you back. I stress this, because this workout is very difficult. I had to modify, and I don't feel any shame in saying that. Remember, this is an extreme workout.

Good luck on getting your workout in today! Together, we can have a party with all those six-packs!
