Colors can have a very powerful effect on the conscious and subconscious mind. Our choice of color not only reveals much about our taste in aesthetics, but it is also a reflection of something much deeper concerning our intentions, mood and personality. These are the meanings and theraputic benefits of colors.

Purple

Purple represents spirituality and intuition. The one who chooses this color will feel an influence of creativity and connection with their inner being and the outer world. Purple has a spiritually healing effect, which is representative of a positive and enlightened state of being. Violet can persuade one into confidence and compassion. Indigo is indicative of strong intuition and creativity. Lavender, the lighter shade of purple, is the royal color, and also influences a calm and creative nature. Purple has a royal essence, which many who embrace the color are partial to. Some also believe that by having or wearing purple in bed can enhance dreams. Shades of purple are associated with the sixth (third eye) and seventh (crown) chakra.

Blue

Blue represents calm and peace of mind. By simply viewing the color, one can find relief from stress as it provides us with a soothing feeling. Blue can also impart an enhancement of communication as it is associated with the fifth (throat) chakra. Shades of blues can inspire our expression.  It is a freedom color and is also masculine.

Pink

Personally, this is my favorite soul color. It symbolizes beauty and love and is also a representation of a creative nature. Those who choose this color can promote a gentle, calm, and open-minded disposition. It also represents the strength and power of femininity, and is most highly associated with love and romance.

Gold

Gold represents dignity and prosperity. Those who choose this color will benefit from its positive effects, which symbolizes strength, honor, royalty and even spirituality. Why do you think the Ancient Egyptians were fond of gold? It represents so many qualities of worthiness and abundance.

Yellow

Yellow is the color of intellect and happiness. It is believed that the one who chooses this color is granted the ability to comprehend better, thus making it an enhancement to intellect. It is an awareness color, as bright as the sun itself, and gives joy to those that embrace it in their surroundings or garments. Yellow is associated with the third (solar plexus) chakra.

Orange

Orange is another color representing energy and life. It is believed that those who choose this color are enabled to attract prosperity, and it is also indicative of a good sense of humor. It gives off a friendly charm that have similar effects of the companion yellow color. It is associated with creativity, and represents vitality, power, fun, balance, truth and humor. This color is largely used for the purpose of curing mental depressions and agony. It wards off all negative influences and attracts the positive energy, thus making our lives all the more happy and blissful. Orange is associated with the second (sacral) chakra.

Red

Red is an energizing color and represents self-confidence and stamina. Those who choose this color can feel uplifted when wearing it or surrounded by it. It has its foundation in the physical and can stimulate us to feel bold. Red is associated with the first (root) chakra. This is also the carnal passion energy.

Black

Black is the color of power and authority. Choosing this color can serve as a form of protection by inducing a neutral, yet, determined feeling. Many people choose black because it gives off an air of professionalism and strong will power. Think of the attire that many business professionals choose with black as the general theme. This "no-games" approach is truly indicative of the color black, in addition to sophistication and neutral style.

White

White is representative of harmony and idealism. It portrays an innocence and positive nature for those who choose it and can be purifying both physically and mentally. To recover a fresh, clear, mind and balance, surround yourself with white.

Brown

Brown is a grounding color. It is the color of soil and comes as no coincidence that it is a representation of fertility. Brown is stabilizing and thus enhances foundation. To inspire a resourceful and dependable nature, brown is the color of choice.

All colors have the potential for healing. Each has a specific therapeutic and expressive effect which can be found in the natural world around us. All we have to do is go outside to benefit from the soothing effects of the ocean blue, regain the abundance from the greens of mother earth, and become grounding in the brown soils which mark our paths from day to day. Look towards the rainbows to experience many variations of these colors and discover that every color in between serves its purpose to enhance us while we celebrate its beauty.
