There are many antidepressant drugs on the market today used to treat depression. Cymbalta however is one drug that has indications for more than just depression.

Lets face it we live in a society where it seems like almost every person we speak to has depression, in some form or another. We aren't just born with depression, which like diabetes and heart disease, is classified as a disease. No, depression can be contributed a great deal, as a result of the stress and anxiety of society; that we work and play in, each and every day.

Sometimes depression haunts us after the death of a close friend or relative. Possibly even after an ugly divorce, or loss of a job. These emotional feelings are all normal and you are no different than the next person; if you experience such feelings after going through an emotional turmoil, as briefly mentioned. However when these feelings of sadness, loneliness, gloom or worthlessness persist for more than a year for example. Than here is where a real problem and diagnosis of clinical depression can be made.

Depression is all and much more of a few of the examples mentioned above, but depression may also be the result of an genetic defect, or the result of a physical process going on within the body. In turn causing chemicals within the brain to go amock. Also depression could be inherited or passed down through the family genes just like diabetes may be for example.

There are many factors that can be responsible for depression and I have just skimmed the surface, of a few more popular reasons; for why depression can do more than hurt an individual. Whatever it is that is making you depressed there are health professionals that can help you. And in addition there are many useful combinations of antidepressants that can be utilized to help increase the neurotonin and serotonin within your brain.

Neurotonin and Serotonin are two of the major brain chemicals responsible for stimulation and making us feel sad or happy. Antidepressants however should only be used as a last resort, if all else fails, in assisting us increase our overall mood levels. Sometimes just talking to a good social worker, or psychotherapist first, who is trained within this field, will often help us get down to the root of the matter. Besides talking to someone who understands these types of issues always helps.

If you find after several sessions that a psychotherapist, is doing nothing in the way of helping you overcome your individual worries and concerns, or even with those continual feelings of sadness. Then it may be time for you to consult your personal healthcare provider, about taking a dual serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Don't let the word scare you. This is just some fancy term for a group of antidepressant drugs that work not only on one brain chemical, serotonin. But work on dual, or two brain chemicals within your brain-Neurotonin and Serotonin.

Boosting the brain chemicals neurotonin and serotonin, can in fact have very beneficial results for a clinically depressed person person. This individual type often has not benefitted from the symptomatic relief from other antidepressants, used in conjunction with psychotherapy.

This is where the drug Cymbalta comes into play. Cymbalta is a (DSSRUI) or Dual Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Again don't let the fancy, long name frighten you. Just remember the name Cymbalta and the medication over the next two; to four weeks will do the rest, with of course some direction from your medical doctor.

The wonderful thing about a drug like Cymbalta (Duloxetine Hydrochloride), is that it is a drug that is not only useful in combatting symptoms associated with moderate to severe depression. It is also a drug used to treat a few other conditions as well.

One of the conditions that Cymbalta also works well for is (DPNP). This stands for another fancy word, Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. So if you suffer from nerve related pain from having an illness such as Diabetes, than Cymbalta will help alleviate the pain that you will usually feel from this disease. If you are a patient who has diabetes, you will usually feel uncomfortable pain in your feet. Cymbalta in clinical studies has shown to help with this type of pain, in about one weeks time.

Besides helping individuals who are clinically depressed and suffer from Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, Cymbalta also is useful in relieving pain as a result of Fibromyalgia. So if you suffer from a Fibromyalgia related illness, which can effect related nerves in and around the lower neck and other areas, then it may well be worth speaking to your physician about adding Cymbalta; to see if it may help you with this condition as well.

Cymbalta has also been shown not only to eliminate pain up to fifty percent, for both individuals suffering from Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy and Fibromyalgia. But it has shown to lessen the pain in persons who suffer from chronic back pain. And like many other antidepressants, as well as other prescription drugs, you may experience one or more of the following adverse reactions when taking this medication as indicated below.

  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Sleepiness
  • Increased Sweating
  • Decrease Of Appetite

However the majority of people never experience any of these symptoms. Never the less they are there for you, to make you aware that there is always a possibility of symptoms developing, as a result of taking any prescription, or over the counter (OTC) medication for that matter. The benefit that you get from most medications, including Cymbalta will definitely outweigh the negative consequences.

Also your physician or other healthcare provider will always fill you in on all that you need to know about taking this and other medications. Also do not be shy-ask your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about any prescribed medication. Also a typical starting dose for Cymbalta, based on your particular illness and/or condition will started at the lowest dose that Cymbalta is available in. 30mg. is the customary dose that most physicians will start you on, if they decide Cymbalta is the medication of choice for you. Cymbalta is also available in 40 and 60mg. capsules.

The 60 mg. dosage is usually increased from 30 to 40mg, in about four two six weeks time; if you feel that your symptoms are not improving at the lower dosage. I have a cousin who takes Cymbalta for the three conditons I previously mentioned in this article...Depression, Chronic Back Pain and Fibromyalgia, which affects cervical nerves in her neck area. And she tells me that she feels so much better while taking Cymbalta, then while she did taking another popular antidepressant, Lexapro. In additon she not only feels happier, but is also pain free more than 85% of the time.

So if you suffer from clinical depresson and are also a patient who suffers from nerve pain, as a result of being a diabetic patient. Then Cymbalta may help you in multiple ways, not to mention that it can also be used to treat any lower, chronic back pain that you may have. To add it may help alleviate the pain experienced from Fibromyalgia. The real beauty that I personally find in a drug like Cymbalta, is that it cannot only assist in treating multiple disease conditons. But it also can save you some money out of pocket.

And especially in today's economy with the high cost of healthcare, which also includes prescription drug coverage, if you are without insurance. This can without a doubt, be an added bonus, not to mention you may not have to worry about contraindications or side-effects; from other medications prescribed for multiple conditons, that you may be afflicted with.

So always look at the positive aspects that any medication may bring; before looking at the negative points. Also try to remember that there are people out there, within the medical field beside friends and family; who can help you cope with feelings of pain and despair. If you try to keep these things in perspective, along with a positive attitude, then you will never have to hurt alone again.
