Amazing Health Benefits Of Honey- "A Sweet Nectar"

Updated on November 17, 2012

Most of us know that honey is a very beautiful and sweet gift given to us by Mother Nature but do you also know that it has many health benefits.

There are hardly any places in the world where this sweet nectar is not cherished. Yes nectar because it has enormous benefits. It is known as Honig in German, Miele in Italian, Shahad in Hindi, Miel in French, Miel in Spanish, Mel in Portuguese, мед in Russian, Honing in Dutch, and μελι in Greek.

The benefits of honey go beyond its great taste. A great natural source of carbohydrates which provide strength and energy to our bodies. Honey contains no cholesterol, 22 amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.  It is a great killer of germs and bacteria, and is more effective than some antibiotics. Its natural fruit sugars play an important role in preventing fatigue during exercise.

Heath Benefits Of Honey

Great Source of Energy

If you are feeling low in the morning, instead of having a carbonated energy drink (which off course will add some extra pounds to your weight), try honey. Spread it on hot toast or replace the sugar in your tea/milk with it for a refreshing surge of energy.

Immune System

Honey’s antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties can help improve digestive system and help you stay healthy and fight disease. Honey contains nutraceuticals, which are effective in removing free radicals from our body. As a result, our body immunity is improved. The daily intake of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks.

Reducing Cholesterol

Since it contains no cholesterol it helps in reducing the cholesterol level of a patient suffering from high cholesterol problem.

Take two tablespoons of honey, three teaspoons of cinnamon powder and mix in 16 ounces of tea, when given to a cholesterol patient, reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. Pure honey is also sometimes used with food to check cholesterol.

Good for eyesight

Regular use of honey mixed with the carrot juice helps to improve the eyesight. It should be taken in the early morning.

For Beautiful Skin

Honey mixed with ground almonds makes an excellent facial cleansing scrub. Add a tablespoon of honey with crushed almonds and your homemade facial scrub is ready. Use the honey scrub and get smooth and radiant skin instantly. It is best for person having oily skin, it removes the oil from skin and gives smooth skin.

Honey also makes a great moisturizing pack. Just mix 2 tablespoons of honey with 2 teaspoons of whole milk, smooth over the face and throat, and let it do its job for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and finish splashing with cold water and see the results.

Toothache Problem

Honey is effective remedy for toothache. Soak a few cloves in the paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth to get instant relief.

Bad Breath Problem

It also helps in getting rid of bad breath problem. Mix a tablespoon of honey with water and gargle several times a day to get rid of bad breath.

Weight Loss

People suffering from obesity who want to get rid of their excess fat can use honey as a tool in transforming their figure. Though honey has more calories than sugar, honey when consumed with warm water helps in digesting the fat stored in your body. Similarly honey and lemon juice and honey and cinnamon help in reducing weight.

Drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup water first thing in the morning (empty stomach). If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body,

Lemonade with a tablespoon of honey is the perfect formula to lose weight fast. Add a tablespoon of honey in a glass of lemonade and drink it every morning to stay thin.

Mixture of equal quantities of honey and ginger juice is a good expectorant. It gives immediate relief in symptoms like cold, cough, sore throat, congestion of chest and runny nose. Consuming milk with a teaspoon of honey is highly effective to cure cough and cold.

Blood Pressure

Take one teaspoonful of garlic juice mixed with two teaspoonful of honey. It can be taken twice a day in the morning and evening. Regular use of this mixture is beneficial for high blood pressure.

People suffering from sleep disorder can use honey as a remedy. Take a glass of hot milk with a teaspoon of honey to calm the soul and induce sleep.

Hello Maheshji I really agree to you when it comes to the unique features and the effects of honey on human body and as we know this heavenly healer can do wonders,I have seen so many honey nests on my trees of fruits but when I see the way the honey is taken out of them, that some what turns me off and I take the half very reluctantly that the honey man offers me in return of the nest i give them but I give the honey to some one who is more than happy to use it.Thanks for a useful hub.
