Feeling Guilty About Playing Farmville?...

I'm a numbers girl, and it has suddenly come to my attention that there are some 83 million people playing Farmville, on facebook. Well...that certainly caught my attention. So I figured I better investigate, and find out why so many people are playing this silly game.

Here are my findings:

Of course I had to start by playing the game. So I set out to build my farm. It aint easy, but it was very educational.

The first thing I discovered it demands is "Time Management" (#1). Should you miss the harvest, you wither. Uh Oh!

The second discovery I made is it prompts "Patience" (#2), another good asset in Life. You have to wait, and watch for the animals to produce Milk, and your crops, to harvest them on time. Patience is a virtue right?

My third discovery was that it forces "Discipline" (#3), certainly a very good asset in business, and life. If you're not disciplined to manage your time with patience, then you will not earn the big bucks.

My fourth discovery is that it also pushes you to help your neighbor, "Help Thy Neighbor" (#4). It's called working together to manage time, be disciplined to be productive, and maintain patience until success is reached.

My fifth discovery is that it urges you to give "Gifts" (#5). To give to others, and share the benefits of success with each other. Sharing the wealth, for the good of the many.

My sixth discovery is it prompts you to be more social amongst your friends. "Socialization" (#6). To interact with others at the same level of equality.

My seventh discovery is that it instills "Love" (#7). When the animals are ready, you collect their goods, and or pet them. Hearts appear when you pet them, to show they love this attention.

My eighth discovery is that is prompts "Brain Activity" (#8). The more stimulation, the more proper firing of brain cells. The more improved your brain, mental awareness, and attitude become. Hence my name: BrainFire.

My ninth discovery is that it prompts "Healthy Competition" (#9). Everyone wants their farm to be the best, and the biggest. Since the skies the limit, it'll be interesting to see how well everyone progresses in all aspects.

My tenth discovery is it trains you to spend your coins wisely. "Financial Management" (#10). Carefully calculating what you have, vs. what you need, and what you can get in the future. All of that dictates your success. Managing your money, another good life-business asset.

My eleventh discovery is that it provides for "Color Therapy" (#11). Colors are beneficial in nature, and we receive the full spectrum of light from our sun. Having a visual stimulation of a variety of colors is actually good for your brain, mind, and outlook. Color the farms beautiful!

My twelfth discovery is it provides for "Mental Awareness" (#12). Everyone interacting with each other, is aware of each other's farms status, level, experience, and more. It keeps you on your toes to do better on your own farm.

My thirteenth discovery is that it prompts "Respect" (#13). Respect for your fellow farmer, and neighbors. Since I see a hint of a mad max world...I'm thinking this is a good thing.

My fourteenth discovery is that it enables you to establish "High Self Esteem" (#14). Receiving rewards, free gifts, and a host of other surprises, for all your pays off in the end. Creating a feeling of accomplishment.

My fifteenth discovery is that it helps remind people to " Treat Others as You Wish To Be Treated" (#15). Promoting fairness, and equality amongst the farmers, and animals. Adopting orphaned livestock, and more. Be kind to your pays in the end.

I found the game to tie to life in a dramatic way. I couldn't find too many negatives, except for intermittent browser problems while playing. Over all in general, I found it to be a good game that actually improves skills, and trains people who lack skills. Now all you have to do is apply the very same skills to real life, and you'll reap the same benefit.

So for all you players out there that may have been feeling a little guilty about playing games...Play on! You will only improve your business skill, interpersonal skills, and improve your friendships! Keep stimulating your brain, and be happy...Be sure to eat lot's of fruits and vegetables too!

We're all connected.......on Farmville! Now could you please send me some more Gold!

Here's a good one...I wrote above that I would not purchase a Border Collie for a whopping $300,000.00, yup and I meant it. What happens? My friend who's farm pic is featured above did buy the Border Collie for $300K! lol

So I get a call, that she has to move...and can't feed the dog...Oye! Sooo...who get's stuck feeding the dog...Me! lol lol lol...How ironic right? What we do for

So I rearranged her entire farm!...while she was lol I mean really rearranged it, so she wouldn't recognize

She actually loved what I did, and of course the dog is now grown up. All is well in

I am sending her for counseling for buying the outrageously expensive dog! lol

Ok... $300K for a Border Collie??? If this were real life...I'd have to say you need But all in fun, have at'er. Me personally, I would cringe at the thought of spending $300K in coins for a dog? I can't bring myself to do

Too many homeless animals :( ...I wouldn't buy. I can only adopt. Even on

      Thank you Teresa.

I could take it over the flip side, and bring out some things that could be interpreted as negative. Depending on how you look at it, of course.

Since I was harassed by all my friends to play this, I had to look at it with an open mind, in order to play. What I was searching for, was the answer as to why 83 million people are playing this!

While I'm playing, I'm thinking about the $4 Billion we spend yearly on Sponge Bob, and the $49 Billion we're spending on Obesity yearly, and the new video game that grossed over $300 Million in one day, exceeding the movie Titanic...these things were prevalent in my mind while I'm playing, which allowed me to view it, analyze it, and involve myself in it from a purely psychological stand point.

I'm not into games so to speak, (except Chess), so I have to agree with you, but from the position I am analyzing it, I was trying to expose the factors that grip people to continue to play. Which indeed I was able to do. I am now a little more educated on the Farmville addiction. I am happy to report I feel it will have a positive impact on society.

I'll say this: I would prefer people rush home to harvest, as opposed to rushing off to happy hour, or rushing to the drug dealer. I think it will help divert traffic to a more wholesome life, with the right content...Farming.

I had a very negative attitude about the game before I began playing it, I was even a bit annoyed with the constant harassment I was getting from everyone to play it. However I had to concede I was wrong about how I viewed it, and I needed to speak from a position of facts, not my ignorant opinion. I try never to make any conclusive decisions until I have all the facts. Upon getting all the facts, I had to admit I was I decided to do that by making a hub about it.

This is my way of saying I'm sorry I had such a bad attitude about the game. So I'm apologizing to my friends, and the world for my negative outlook prior to playing. I'm also exposing the the positive facts I discover about it, since I was in fact wrong.

I have managed to squeeze it into my morning, and night time schedule in order to analyze it daily. Which dictates what I can grow. According to my busy schedule. At the very least I've made some reassuring discoveries, and I hope it helps people to read between the lines of the game, and realize it will actually retrain you without you realizing it.

I got past my own opinion, and can identify more facts about it, which benefits everyone.

If you do come back to play, request me as a neighbor, and I'll feed your chickens, and fertilize your crops Morning Glory, and Cranberries will allow for 10 hours between visits to harvest. That's what I usually plant.

Anyway I do appreciate your comments, and visit. Thanks again...and happy playing everyone! Farm On!

This is very interesting. I stopped playing it as I got busy with my classes. It used to consume me, in my thoughts. There were times when I have to rush home, worried that my harvest will be rotten or some other reasons. Great hubs. Thanks for sharing.

Typo correction: see what happens when you're in a

I finally began playing it because one, my friends were harassing me to. And two, I needed to analyze why so many people were playing it.

I hate typos, but sometimes they get ya...It doesn't help that I'm using an old macally keyboard, because I prefer it to the small mac keyboard that goes with my me strange.

Anyway I have had a few crops wither on me, which caused me to hurry up and plow/plant, and It taught me that neglect is not an option under any circumstances. Another way of psychologically prompting a higher demand for discipline.

I like things that are forced from behind the cover. The cover emulates one thing, and behind the cover...that's where the involuntary guide for new skills kick in. The catch is, you have to cooperate, and play by the rules.

I could break the entire scenario down to pure mathematics. Maybe at some point I will. For's quite educational, and I feel it can only get better with time.

The game continues to motivate me to want to play, and expand. To me it's purely educational, and I will be documenting all my findings, and discoveries here on hubpages.

I think it's important to document history as we go, especially while our people are in turmoil, and suffering consequences at the hands of someone else.

I am so happy people have at least found an outlet, and escape, and it happens to be something that is beneficial. Who knew?

I'm busy being happy about what I've found, and enjoy documenting it for historical purposes. This is my therapy, for write. I write because I love our planet, and people...all people. This is my "Tell All" way to give what I know... to you.

The moral of this story is that you should continue to enjoy this game, and several other on facebook that I've looked at. They are all along the same lines, and will improve ones skills to be better in business, and in relationships. It's a secret teacher of mental re-brain washing. I've confirmed it results to be positive, and beneficial in all aspects of life.

Enjoy, and play the best you can:) It's a great way to make friends, even if you have to harass them to it! Send Gifts! lol :)

The good thing about the game is, even if you don't know what you're get help from your friends. It's structured that way. Which helped me a lot. I had no clue what I was I'm not a gamer, I'm a book worm. This is the first "game", besides Chess, that I've played. It's kind of funny to me, considering one of my subjects of study is psychology. Little did I know, or realize that it's a psychological game, among other things.

I finally began playing it because one, my friends were harassing me too. And tow, I needed to analyze why so many people were playing it.

There's my motivating factors, I just had to know, and document. It's historical, and prevalent during a collapse of our society. I find that very interesting. My ongoing research, and discoveries about the game, and it's psychological impact will be noted in this hub as I go.

Everyone playing this game, needs to apply all they learn from real life.

      Thanks so much Shalini!

It's something I just had to set the record straight, and document history. I think when that many people join together and's the start of a new fabric we're all weaving...together. The way it should be.

Thanks so much for the comment! I'll be sure to see you there:)

Take care, and I'll feed your chickens..not to
