Health & Harmony in the Living Room

Updated on May 29, 2017

The simple placement of living room furniture and accessories can improve the flow and energy

Feng shui has become part of our vocabulary. The term is often misused. Feng shui is an old Chinese practice that can bring peace and balance to a space as well as influence the flow of energy. When used correctly, this tradition will help with all these things, plus, it will most likely make your family room look more pleasant. Small changes on the arrangement of the living room furniture can improve the energy exchange and consequently, create harmony in your room and home. This ancient practice also will help you deal with adequate colors and textures.

What do you have to lose? Try some of the steps I include below and I am sure your home will be a happier healthier one.

Key Focus: Living Room Furniture

As a general rule, try not to place chairs, couches and sofas in line with the house or apartment door. This bad habit interrupts the natural energy course of the room.

An important part of feng shui teachings is the awareness of Chi on a particular space. Chi is life energy. On a given room, Chi is either increased or blocked depending on the placement of living room furniture. A negative flow of Chi on a room will have as consequence bad moods on people using the area, and illness might even be contracted. Also, make sure that you don’t place your seating furniture’s back side facing the door. Try positioning the livingroom furniture in circle.

Avoid Confusion

It has been said over and over: clutter makes you less productive and affects your mood in a negative way. In the feng shui tradition, clutter is believed to disrupt the stream of life energy flowing in your living room. Your home is a reflection of yourself in more than one way, but also you are immensely affected by your house. If you think you don’t have enough space in your living room, consider getting some storage items or furniture to maintain the room organized and free of chaos. Sometimes we keep placing more and more stuff in our family space so slowly, that we don’t notice it until it is already creating problems for us. There is nothing wrong with having a simple organization in your home, it will help in keeping a good state of mind.

Decorate for Peace and Harmony

There are many elements that can help you in achieving a nice living room environment. Many garnishes can improve the energy flow of an area. All we have to keep in mind is proper positioning.

Mirrors are a critical part of feng shui. They should be placed on the wall in a way that avoids cropping most people’s head. Moreover, be conscious of what the reflection shows. Ensure it reflects that which you want more in your life of.

Finally, use plants to promote good fortune in your family. Your living room furniture will appreciate the touch of nature in the surroundings.
