How Can I Quit Drinking Alcohol

Updated on August 12, 2013

How can I quit drinking alcohol was the question I always asked myself for many years, but never carried it out to actually stop drinking alcohol forever.

I am sure many people that are addicted to alcohol have asked the same question to them self, but never carried their question out because I believe they and well as I just were not ready to stop drinking alcohol forever and could of been a bit afraid to live life without the crutch we have been carrying around with us for so many years.

Quitting drinking may not sound like a big deal to those that don't have a drinking problem, but believe me for those that are addicted to alcohol, this addiction is a huge part of our lives and we worry that we would not be able to survive in life without alcohol in it.

It is a huge deal for people that have this addiction and it is a bigger deal to finally decide to quit drinking forever. This decision is tough and we think of all the fun we may miss if we stop drinking, (at least I did.) We wonder what our drinking friends will think of us if we quit drinking.

We wonder will they still be our friends or leave us behind and just forget about us because now we have nothing in common. Are they our friends just because we drink alcohol together and hit the bars, or are they going to support our decision to stop drinking like a true friend should?

The photos below is what I have always waited for. To walk my daughter down the aisle on her wedding day. Now just imagine, God for bid, something happened to you or I by drinking and abusing alcohol, health wise, or because you or I became a victim of a horrible car crash because of drinking and driving. Pictures like below would never be possible to be taken because we would not be there for precious moments like this. Do you get my point yet?

This Is One of the Reason I Quit Drinking

One of the Many Reason I Quit Drinking

This photo even though many have seen it before is one of the many reasons I quit drinking. I stopped drinking alcohol not only to save my own life, but to spend what life I had left here on earth with my loving children and my wife of 31 years.

I thought long and hard when I decided to quit drinking alcohol, and what went through my mind and what should go through your mind if you are serious about stopping drinking is that you have a life that is precious and more than likely have a family that loves and cares so for you, so why would we destroy every bit of this love for the love of alcohol.

It really is silly when you think about. We spend our hard earned money on alcohol and then we drink it to get drunk in most cases, and then we hit the you know what,( yes the bathroom to get rid of it.)

Sure the buzz is great while it lasted, but sooner or later you have to sober up and in some cases start the cycle all over again the next day or sometimes much sooner.

What really made me quit drinking alcohol was to just look at what God has given me. A beautiful and loving family. Great health in my family and for myself, so I thought I have to be crazy to ruin all these precious things that have been given me, so I must STOP drinking once and for all.
