How Is This Going To End?

Updated on October 8, 2015

What Are You Going To Do?

I have a little confession to make, every time I click on "Start A Hub" I NEVER know what I am going to write. I do not plan on a topic, I just write and see where it goes. This has been how I write hubs nowadays. I call this freestyle writing. I know people might have some professional name for it. But I am sticking to this one for now. So far it has been serving me rather well.

I am not a person who likes to plan things (I understand it has some shortcomings this not liking to plan thing), may be if I am in the mood I will, but most of the time NO. Why? because that is how most of the people write. They know what they are going to write, they will write about recipes, fitness, writing, playing, law, health, etc. It has been done to death here on Hubpages and on many other blogs and similar sites like Hubpages. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's just that it is not my style.

Being LIke Everyone Else

There is a problem with being like everyone else. You will be stuck like everyone else. Imagine if you are in the same road as everyone else, wouldn't you eventually be stuck in traffic just like everyone else? Why would you want to put yourself in such a situation.

There are literally millions of blogs and articles on recipes and health/fitness, etc. It is a very saturated market, because EVERYONE is doing it. You know what no one else has done so far? To write like you. Because only you can write like you. No one else can. There I go again with my boring lecture. But you have to admit, I make a damn good point. How many people can be The Beatles? Only four: George, Paul, John and Ringo. That's it. The others can be LIKE The Beatles, but there are only four people who make THE Beatles. Get what I am saying? You have to be yourself. That's it.

So Why Are You Still Here?

Why am I still here? pass time! I love to write, I earn a few pennies every now and then, I don't really care. But I love writing, putting my thoughts into words and typing it away is something I love doing. Also it gives me a good sense of where my thoughts are heading. I can see where my thought pattern is going,

If photography is taking a picture of your physical self, writing is like taking a picture of your thoughts. So you can say I am a thought photographer. I just write whatever I want to write and then I judge myself. Haha.

If there is one thing to learn here, it is never do what you love. Unless you are exceptional at it. Because odds are, what you love is loved by a million other people who are much better at it than you are. So if any self-help or success guru comes to you and tell you "do what you love" you run like the wind! Because as far as earning well and being successful is concerned, doing what you love is the worst advice ever given.

Unless you are very very good at it. I mean so good that you get picked up in the NBA draft, that you win the American Idol. I am talking about that kind of GOOD. If you are average at doing what you love, by all means continue but please don't depend on it to earn you a comfortable and sustainable income. This Hub will probably only earn me a few pennies. I don't think I can support my family and myself with it.

The Fastest Registration Process Ever

Go back to the time when you were signing up for hubpages, how long did it take you? 3 minutes? 5 minutes. Did not take you much time. Just like millions of other people. Millions. Anything that is very easy to do, is a saturated market is what I am saying.

Anyway, I am currently in Lombok, the last city of my business trip and I will be going back to good old Jakarta this evening. Boy, do I miss home. Cannot wait to get home to my wife and daughter. Thinking about it makes me smile. It is nice to have something or someone to go home to.

You must be wondering why I am mentioning that. Well, when it comes to the wholesale textile market this is a city that not many companies send their people to. My company is one of the few companies that can afford and also have the guts to send their men (namely me) to this city. This is not a saturated market. And obviously I will make a good income. Because no one else comes here! why? I don't know, I guess they are too scared, being that it is a small town, they feel it is not worth investing in. Well. To that I say thank you!

If everyone is doing it, you either have to be very exceptional to make something of yourself, or you need to leave and find something that is unique. Gone are the days of Adsense millionaires, ebay millionaires, etc. The only people who is making money out of this is Adsense (Google), eBay, etc. Because it is very saturated. It is very saturated because it is very easy to sign up and join.

Real money is made where the entry is hard. You know how hard it is to make eBay? or ADSense? you need some serious computer skills right there. Goodluck.

Exceptionally Average

I sometimes wish I was exceptional, then I would not have to find something that no one else is doing and pave a new road for everyone to follow. I have been dealt a very tough card to play with. If there is anyway for me to make it big, it is to find and do what no one else has done. I am no Jimii Hendrix or Michael Jordan. If I was things would have been pretty easy.

The purpose for us average people is to find and think of something unique and do it. We have been given a duty to make new roads, to dwell on places unknown, that is the only way we can make it big. Otherwise we just have to be satisfied with our 9 to 5 job. Doing the routine unfair exchange of 5 days for 2. 5 days of toiling for 2 days of holiday.

We need to figure out what it is we need to do. And fast. Good Luck on blazing new trails.

Are you as good as him?

drbj that is the plan. In fact, I dare say that is the only plan you should be having it you want to make it success fast. Find untapped sources, and ideas and execute it. At least find something that is rarely untapped and has more potential. Thank you for your comments. :)

Find some more potentially untapped and undiscovered markets like Lombok and you will have it made, suraj. The same advice goes for writing.

Rozina coiled up thoughts, slipping away like mercury, i think your poetic talents are overflowing to the comment section of my hub!! Thank your for the wonderful comment.

Bill, very well said! It does indeed make you a follower. What a sorry lot the majority of us are. I wonder how life would be if everyone did what no one else is doing...

I love the message here. It's one I've mentioned before...following the crowd will make you a.....follower. Duh! And there are millions of followers, all barely making any money in writing. Why not try something new?
