How To Get Rid Of Excess Water From Your Body?

Updated on November 21, 2015

Do you feel bloated, swollen, larger than usually?

If you feel like a baloon, especially when approaching menstruation, you're one of many women who are facing a problem of water retention in the body. It is part of premenstrual syndrome, related to the hormonal changes.
However, there are situations where water retention affects both women and men, and it could be a result of kidney problems, an irregularity in the heart, liver or thyroid. In cases like these, you absolutely need to contact your physician.

The reason may also be mundane - eating too much salty foods can turn your body into a big water tank!

Eat a Banana or Some Raisins

Cut it into slices and add to cereal, make a yummy smoothie, or just peel and eat it, as a snack. Bananas contain a high amount of potassium, which helps get rid of excess water.
If you don't like bananas, you can replace them with a handful of raisins.

Use Ice Packs for Swollen Ankles

An excess of water in you body may lead to swollen ankles. You could place a hanful of ice cubes in a Ziploc bag, and wrap it in a towel. Apply the compress to the swollen place for 5-10 minutes.

Avoid Salty Foods

Before getting you period, try completely unsubscribe from eating salty food, and limit fast and processed foods. Season with pepper and other spices instead.

Drink a Lot of Water and Eat Yogurt

It may sound surprising, but the best way to get rid of excess water in the body is water! Nothing will more effectively cleanse your body of toxins! Try to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.

And yogurt contains live bacteria that aids digestion. You will feel lighter!

Take Vitamins: A and C

When you feel like an inflated balloon, vitamin A and C will help reduce the fragility of blood vessels and the amount of water retained in your body .

All good suggestions. I can't help but notice this happens quite a bit as we get older. Sigh! :)
