Updated on June 30, 2015

Is it Difficult to be a vegan?

Many of the people especially in western part of the world are now finding the real benefits of being a vegan or vegetarian. Recently the vegan thing got the boost when former President of USA Mr . Bill Clinton turned Vegan and lost 24 pounds of weight. But then he was the president of USA so it is not difficult for him to get anything in this world, leave aside all the vegetables. But we as a common people, we have so many concerns to be turning in to one hundred percent vegans. It is not difficult in countries like India where over 70% people are vegans since birth to find vegetarian things in the markets and live easily being vegan but in western countries like Europe or Americas it is very difficult as they say. There are lots of issues involved in being vegan and one thing is not everyone likes tastes of vegetables. Children donot eat vegetables easily and most useful of them like bitter gourd, eggplant , spinach taste horrible to most people but then once you start eating them on regular basis , you would know how to cook them better and slowly develop taste for them.

Myths

So what are the 5 most difficult things being vegan ?

1. Availablity

This is one of the biggest myths that vegan products are not easily available. Now since more and more people are turning vegan so the big stores are now storing more and more vegan products. Go to any Big store like wal mart in any city ( where it is) and you would find lots and lots of vegetarian products. Yes i agree that choice is not as hugh as meat eaters have but slowly and slowly it is catching up. But do see the labels, many so called vegan products they put on have animal products in it.

2. Protein:

Most meat eaters would tell you that vegetarians do not get enough Proteins. Though this is a fact that animals do provide proteins but plants provide proteins too and they are no way inferior to animal proteins. Along with proteins plants give you fibre and diet low in fat and cholesterol.

3. Real Men eat only meat:

This is a big myth. Though in past most sports person did eat meat but now many are turning vegetarian and it is not doing any harm to their performance on the field or off the field. Also a myth that men need to eat meat to be great in bed is now exposed as the vegetarians are as good in bed as meat eaters. The biggest example is Mike Tyson the former world heavyweight champion is total vegan.

4. Animal rights:

Most of us feel concern about the animals and the way they are treated in big meat factories. Vegan is a social moment which not only concerns with the animals rights but also has human issues. The environmental cost to produce meat and dairy are hugh and with rising population of the world, the earth won’t be able to stand the environmental costs of producing so much meat and dairy. Also it helps in health issues like blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes and obesity. If you turn vegan just for a day in a week it reduces your carbon foot print to great extent.

5. Inconvenience:

Most of people think it is very inconvenient to be vegan. This is a myth. Try to use vegetarian products in place of meat and you would see it is not impossible nor very difficult. Putting vegetables on top of pizza instead of meat is not only easy but also tasty too. Try to make pure vegetable salad which has lots of cucumbers , onions, radish and fruits in it and you would not only get near zero calorie big food helping but also a very tasty and healthy food.

IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET FRESH VEGETARIAN FOOD CHOICES ALL OVER THE WORLD THESE DAYS SO FRIENDS WHY NOT GIVE IT A TRY?

DO you think Vegans ( vegetarians) are more healthy ?
