How much is the IUI treatment cost in India? Is it Affordable?

Updated on December 1, 2017

IUI or Intrauterine insemination is a treatment for fertility in which sperm are placed in the uterus of a woman to allow fertilization. The main goal of this treatment is to increase chances of fertilization. The success rate of this treatment varies from person to person. The success of the treatment is also determined by the total motile count. If this count is between 1 to 5 million, there will be no chance of success.

Cost of IUI treatment in India

While this treatment costs about $865 in the United States of America, the IUI treatment cost in India compared to the price in the USA is much less. A single cycle of IUI costs just 3000 rupees in India. However, if you want to complete the treatment in just one cycle, and then you may have to pay between 5000 rupees to 10,000 rupees. This will include the cost of the ultrasound scanning and other tests that are to be taken before the commencement of the treatment.

All medical costs vary from states to states in India; therefore, the cost of the IUI treatment can also vary depending on which location you avail the treatment. Here is the list of the average IUI treatment cost per cycle. (The below figures are an average indication.)

  1. Mumbai 10,000 -15,000 rupees
  2. Bangalore 8,000 – 9,500 rupees
  3. Delhi 6,000 – 8,500 rupees
  4. Chennai 4,000 – 5,000
  5. Nagpur 3,500 – 5,000 rupees
  6. Hyderabad Approximately 4,000 rupees
  7. Pune Approximately 4,000 rupees
  8. Kolkata Approximately 4,000 rupees

Is it affordable?

The next question that comes to the minds of a couple is, is the treatment affordable? IUI treatment is clearly affordable as you can see the average cost required. Compared to the other fertility treatments, this treatment is safe and affordable as well. Other fertility treatments like IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) can cost you around three to four lakhs, which is very high.

Number of cycles required

The above figures are for a single cycle. The changes of getting pregnant after the first cycle of the treatment are very less. There is only 10 – 20% chance for women who are under the age of 35, 10% chances for the women between the age of 35 and 40 and there is only 2-5 % chance for women above 40 years of age. Therefore, doctors recommend undergoing more than one cycles of treatment to increase the chances. Therefore, the cost will increase.

It is very important to note that you must consult with more than one doctor to find the best treatment required for you and try to undergo the treatment from a well-renowned hospital. Just because you find a little price difference, do not jump to conclusions and avail the treatment from the cheaper hospital. Another point to note is that the treatments may take time to give results, i.e. approximately 6 – 8 months and this can vary person to person. Always plan your financial resources and then undergo the treatment. If you are planning to go for the IUI treatment, then complete the treatment and always undergo the number of cycles suggested by your doctors to provide the best result.
