How to Get Rid of Toxins in the Body in Inexpensive Ways

Updated on February 27, 2012

I wasn’t conscious about getting rid of toxins from my body not until I attended a seminar on natural remedies where the speaker has spent three decades teaching people how to prevent illness and be disease-free, after surviving thyroid cancer using natural remedy.

In order to maintain good health, she advocated the need to flush toxins or toxic wastes from our bodies on a daily basis. Why? Toxic wastes are present because of eating junk food, intake of medications for extended periods of time, presence of parasites and exposures to pollutants which we may have taken orally or absorbed by our sense organs.

I was in disbelief. Toxic wastes in time can bring about serious illnesses like arthritis, diabetes, heart problems, Alzheimer’s, depression, cancer and other degenerative disorders. Goodness! I never knew it was that serious.

My baffled mind had to ask. But our body is designed to excrete wastes right? Does it not do that?

The questions came back at me. How regularly do you excrete stool? Do you experience chronic constipation? Irregular bowel movement means poor elimination of toxic wastes that may be in your body.

I gasped. Sssh, this is just between you and me. There have been moments when I would excrete tiny, hard stools. I didn’t need to be convinced twice. I listened to the ways I can flush out toxins...intently!

Important Reminders for Flushing

Do flushing upon waking up, first thing in the morning. First thing means first thing. No coffee yet. Not even brushing your teeth. It also means you haven’t eaten breakfast!

This is important:

  • Flush on an empty stomach!
  • Drinking water for flushing should not be cold.

And then wait an hour before you take your breakfast. She believes this is enough to detoxify the bowel, liver and also your kidneys for the day.

Here are four practical ways that effectively help you get rid of toxins in inexpensive ways.

Lemons are good for you!
Lemons are good for you! | Source

Buy local fruits

This is how our local lemon or lime looks like. I drink this formula if we could have a supply of lime.
This is how our local lemon or lime looks like. I drink this formula if we could have a supply of lime. | Source

Prepare the following:

  • four glasses of drinking water
  • 1 fresh lemon or lime (cut into 4 pieces)

Pick one slice of lemon or lime into each of the four glasses of drinking water. Drink one glass of lime water slowly. Pick lemons that are fresh and organic. Did you know that lemon is alkaline? Okay, the first time I heard about this, I frowned. I also thought that it is sour and acidic and will be harmful to my stomach esp. taking it on an empty stomach! But in reality lemon has alkaline effect when it is absorbed in our bodies.

Also, there are so many benefits of lemon. It has vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and C and helps build defenses against infection.

Remember this shouldn't be lemonade. So no sugar, no honey and the like! It should just be lime and water. That's it! That sounds so simple right?

Prepare the following:

  • Four glasses of drinking water
  • 2-3 drops of apple cider vinegar

Add two to three drops of apple cider vinegar into each glass of water. If you are unable to find lemon, which is unlikely, apple cider vinegar can be used as a substitute for lime or lemon. Of course, you can buy this in local supermarkets. Like lime or lemon, it is also acidic but if it is absorbed into the body, it has alkaline effect.

Important note: Apple cider vinegar cannot be taken for prolonged periods of time, making your body lose calcium. So just take this formula for about a month and then use the other formulas!

  • Drink four glasses of alkalinized water

Due to increase awareness of health practices nowadays, there are already alkalinized water available in the market. There are also alkaline capsules that are sold. But this is one of the formulas that I rarely use though. Drinking alkaline water is one way to improve your immune system.

I prepare one liter of drinking water in my room so I could drink it first thing in the morning.
I prepare one liter of drinking water in my room so I could drink it first thing in the morning. | Source

The last but definitely not the least is:

  • Drink four glasses of plain drinking water

Sounds so simple? It is simple.

So I tried it out. The first time I tried this, I couldn't ingest four glasses of water in the morning. And if I woke up late, I had to skip this regimen lest i have to miss breakfast. I love my breakfast too much.

Then I move on from one glass to two to three. I slowly noticed that my bowel movement had become easier. In fact after fifteen minutes, I would find myself rushing to the rest room and expel all the toxic wastes from my body. I tell you, expelling toxins from my body made me feel good! Really light on the tummy area too.

Some of my friends started trying it too. One used the apple cider vinegar formula, the others our local lime, the others alkaline water or plain water, the effect was the same- regular bowel movement!

With that shared, the only thing to do is to try it out yourself. Actually, there are other ways to remove toxins such as detox regimens, having sweat baths and saunas, doing colon cleanse or exercise.

With all these options at hand, all it takes is making the choice to daily cleanse or flush toxins from your body. Make it part of your lifestyle. And do this for the rest of your life.

Choose to be healthy. Blessings.

I think some of the ingredients in these toxin flushers are alright to try in moderation along with a balanced diet and plenty of water. Most would benefit from cutting back on sugar as well. I start every day with a glass of water because I think that is best. I don't think your system needs something that it has to squeeze water out of first thing in the morning.

Detoxifying is so important to maintain a healthy body. I always focus on that. But new methods are interesting to try.

I never thought about the drinking four glasses of water before breakfast, as you had discussed here. I do put lemon in water, but not four glasses at a time. I'll have to try that.

It's always great to feel good and maintain our health. And removing toxins is an important part of doing that. Great hub with important info. Voted up.

I know our bodies need enough water to detox correctly and that the alkaline things helped this. However I appreciate your tip that apple cider vinegar is calcium depleting over long time use. Thank you.

I've enjoyed the hub thoroughly. One thing I want to say that, water not only helps in removing toxins but also carry nutrients to the cell and keep the nose, throat and ear tissue hydrated. Moreover, our body's 60% is water. So the formula mentioned above will definitely work. I follow the formula number 4 for many days and I have a very good bowel habit.

And what tests do you use to 1. Determine what "toxins" you have and at what level. 2. Measure your success or lack there of at eliminating these toxins.

Unfortunately many of these "cures" don't really do anything at all, but could have adverse effects on your body. I'm all for Organic and Whole Foods.... but don't be a bandwagoner. If you really think you have a high load of toxins you can and should be working with a Physician who can do the appropriate testing. Otherwise you are just pretending you are doing something good for yourself.

Yikes! I have been reading about early puberty in girls recently, tied to environmental toxins being stored in fatty tissue. It is so scary what we've been doing to our world, and ultimately to ourselves. This sort of detoxification ritual seems to me a good way to start addressing the problem in our personal lives, but much remains to be done in the wider ecosystem. Thank you for sharing.

This is good advice. Some years ago my doctor advised starting the day with a glass of water with an optional slice of lemon. In winter I drink the water warmed up. I feel so much better.

Yes, our bodies are designed to eliminate waste - but too often we eat junk food that is not good, and probably beyond the bodies natural capabilities.

One thing not mentioned in the article I thought I might remind people... make sure the water you are drinking is clean water and not coming from the tap. Many places put chlorine, fluoride and other health destroying additives to tap water. Just thought I would remind the readers out there about that... The goal is to clean the body of toxins, not put more in ;) So if your tap water is not clean... you can drink reliable well water, glass bottled water, reverse osmosis, Brita filter water, etc... good luck with the cleansing and thanks for the wonderful article!

I'm a strong believer in focusing on eliminating toxins from our bodies. I drink a lot of water for that reason. Instead of cutting lemons, I mix a little lemon juice with the water. But nothing else. Just like you said, we don't want lemonade.

I also sometimes mix a about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water. But not every day. I wonder if I'm still using too much vinegar. I noticed you said to just use a few drops and then not longer than a month. I know we have to be careful with that. Vinegar is helpful when used sparingly.

Thanks for a great review of all these methods.

ripplemaker, this practice of drinking water immediately on getting up in the morning is advocated in Ayurveda. In fact, it is suggested to keep the water available at hand by keeping it near the bed while going to sleep at night so that you can straightaway drink it right on awakening. And yes, it has to be taken without brushing the teeth as the accumulated saliva is beneficial to the gut and prevents a lot of intestinal and digestive disorders.

      Wonderful hub. Thanks for sharing.

      Voted up, awesome and useful.

I making sure that I drank at least five glasses of water about a year ago and found that I just felt better. My body now seems to crave water and if I go without it, I just don't feel as good.

I have heard of this detoxifying practice... I have read a feedback regarding the Master Cleanse diet and that's with lemons, water, maple syrup... I have been wanting to give it a try but lemons are quite expensive and I have researching about the use of our local calamansi... hmmm... i would really want to give this detox thing a try... i really don't feel that healthy...
