Sue is a mother and grandmother living in sunny Malaysia. Like many Malaysians, food is one of her passions.

I Used To Have A Bad Runny Nose

There was the non stop sneezing and watery eyes. I had a tissue box stationed everywhere for easy access. I think Kleenex would have been very happy with me for all the boxes of tissues I was going through every month. I was on medication treatment for runny nose for many years and tried countless home remedies. Some were helpful while others had no effect.

It is so nice to wake up and not have a congested nose every morning. The number of tissue boxes has also reduced tremendously. That is a great savings too!

Allergy caused by pollen made my nose run

Medical Treatment For Runny Nose

My doctor put me on medication so that I wouldn't have a runny nose all the time. There was the anti-histamine pills for the day and different ones for the night. The day time drugs were milder while the night ones made me sleepy.

Well, the mild medication was no use to me and I took the stronger ones even during the day. After a while I became immune to the side effects of being sleepy. I wasn't happy to be taking so much drugs but it made my life more bearable. Without it I really felt miserable and I couldn't do anything the whole day.

What Is An Allergy?

Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance like pollen or dust. It mistakenly identifies the foreign substance as a dangerous invader and will trigger the release of antibodies to attack the particular allergen.

Once these antibodies are produced, every time you are exposed to the allergen your immune system will go into action. This creates the release of histamines and other substances that cause allergic symptoms. It results in overstraining the immune system and can result in a depleted immune system.

Home Remedies

Trying to get rid of a runny nose is not easy

I tried various remedies for a runny nose. Of course I also visited the pharmacy regularly to see what would help my runny nose. The pharmacists were really helpful and recommended different multivitamins to me. I tried the various brands that were available. I also ate more fruits to increase my intake of Vitamin C. This was in addition to buying Vitamin C supplements. I was very conscientious in taking these supplements but it hardly made much improvement.

How To Stop A Runny Nose

Aggressive Supplement Program

Helps to stop a runny nose

According to Dr Ray Strand an aggressive supplement program

1. Replenish the antioxidant defense system.

2. Decrease the damage and reaction caused by the confused immune system.

Building Up The Immune System Is Effective Treatment

Mega Antioxidant And Chelated Mineral

About two years ago a friend recommended a multivitamin/antioxidant called Essentials. After about 6 months on this particular multivitamin I noticed some improvement with my runny nose. I could even cut down on my medication. Seeing the improvement, I began to take the recommended optimal dosage which was 3 times a day.

Grape Seed Extract

Its anti-histamine properties to stop a runny nose

My friend also asked me to try adding grape seed extract which has anti-histamine properties. Sometimes when I could feel a cold or sneezing fit coming on, I took extra grape seed extract and extra vitamin C instead of antihistamine tablets. It seemed to work. I also took Bio Omega Fish Oil which helped to control the inflammation of my nose.

I don't know if this will work for you the same way.

Why not give it a try to see if it will work for you and stop your runny nose.
