Master Cleanse Recipe

The Master Cleanse Diet is not new, and the recipe is not complicated. This popular cleanse also goes by names such as the Lemonade Diet, the Maple Syrup Diet, or the Cayenne Pepper Diet. All these names point to ingredients found in the Master Cleanse Diet.

Master Cleanse Recipe

This recipe provides about 100 calories per glass. With this in mind, it is important to drink at least 8 - 12 glasses each day. For best results, ingredient substitutions are not recommended.

Master Cleanse Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of Grade B Maple Syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (Freshly squeezed, this is about 1/2 a lemon)
  • One tenth ( 1/10 ) of a tea spoon of Cayenne pepper
  • a 10oz filtered drinking water

The Master Cleanse drink should be consumed when you feel hungry and is usually followed for 7-10 days.

Salt Water Flush

Along with drinking the Master Cleanse lemonade mixture, the cleansing process starts with a salt water flush in the morning. This step is optional, but speeds up the detoxification process as it cleans out your intestines after the laxative tea has had a chance to work overnight.

How to Make the Salt Water Flush

  • 2 tsp. non-iodized sea salt
  • 32 ounces pure water

Drinking this mixture with a straw helps the taste by-pass your tongue. Warm water is recommended as it helps flush mucus from your intestinal tract.

Cleansing Tea

A laxative tea should be taken at the end of the day. This allows the cleansing properties to work through your digestive tract while you sleep. The tea works to help expel mucus and waste and promotes cleansing.

Talk to Your Doctor

The Master Cleanse Diet has become widely accepted and even promoted by celebrities such as Beyonce who used the cleanse to drop 20 pounds for her role in Dreamgirls. However, the Master Cleanse is not meant to be a weight loss plan. It is a detox fast. Weight loss is a side effect. Often weight lost during this fast is temporary and is regained quickly.

Before you choose to follow this cleanse or any diet, talk with your doctor. She knows your medical history and can tell you if it is a safe approach for you.

      its a great time honored classic cleanse. its tough for the first few days, but once you get over the hump, its not too bad. I was never really hungry but you do get a little spacey at times.

      Thanks for this recipe. This is really well written and easy to follow. I've been wanting to do a master cleanse, even though they aren't exactly pleasant. I'm going to try this Monday, I think. Oh, and I voted up :)
