My Life on Pills - a poem of sorts

PILL MAN! If I am stuck taking these things, I might as well have some fun with them!
PILL MAN! If I am stuck taking these things, I might as well have some fun with them! | Source

1 pill when I get up

5 with breakfast

2-3 during the day, if I remember

2 pills around dinner time

3 more at bed

Then the "as needed's"

One to pick me up

One to calm me down

One if I’m dizzy

One for migraines

One for aches and pains

Don’t forget the upset stomach

Like Alice in wonderland

One pill to make me big

And one to make me small

Seems ideal

A little of this

A little of that

The perfect cocktail and

Poof

Normal

Far from it

More like a lab rat

Why can't there be only one

to replace them all

Then I won't have to decide

This one or that

Take less or more

Just ride it out

Something's not right

Does this one still work

How do I know

Perhaps I will cut back

Bad idea

Congratulations

I won myself a double dose

Better

For now

Don't skip

Don't forget

And God oh God

Don't run out

What's that noise

Rattling in my purse

It's my jar of candy

At least they are pretty colors

Beautiful poem. This is a story of my life too. I start my morning with pills and end my day with pills.

Urmilashukla23, Thank you for reading. And for the compliment. See you around hubpages.

Really lovely poem expressing my life also. The pills messed with my head and I took because I trusted the doctor. Now I live without the pills and I am happier. I hope you are talking of the past in this poem, or soon will be. Thanks for sharing.

louiseelcross, unfortunately that is my current routine. Due to several physical conditions and some mental as well. The pills started only three years ago. I have just started healtier living hoping to reduce my need for medication. Your comment is encouraging. Thank you.

Very honest and I always admire this;the worse thing with tablets is the side effects and then there is another pill to counteract.

Clever hub and I look forward to so many more hubs for us both to share on here.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

      Eddy.

I can relate to the rattling in my purse! I still get embarrassed by it sometimes. Great poem.

Heather Says - Thank you for the comment, and the complimemt. Such a love hate relationship it is between the pill taker and their pills!... Don't be embarrased. Nothing to be ashamed of at all. Its life.

It seems the less pills I try to take, the more get added! Tomorrow I go to the doc to see why my health has been tanking. Maybe I will get some good news there. At least my job is going well! :)

I think you captured the craziness around your medication regimen with humor and so accurately--and I am so sorry about the loss of your pet!

I agree with Audrey. The last lines of this hub definitely stand out greatly with truth and honesty. Well Done!

      AUDREY and KD -

Thank you. I really appreciate your comments. They let me know that my writing got my point accross. That is really important to me. I like to write for writings sake, but I also want to connect with readers.

I sat down and wrote this in one short sitting. Venting now and again helps with the frustration. It really is a nightmare. I would love to just stop taking averything and start over, but I don't have the luxury of going through a detox just yet.

Thanks for the kind words about Thelma. I miss the little cutie already!

LOL. I feel like writing a poem about my pills and vitamins now.

Nuvigil and ribose when I wake-it helps get me up

Metformin, 750mg, take on a full stomach

A shot of Byetta, a shot of insulin, my sugar's can be such poo

BTW, shots are easy. They save your vision and are easy to do.

Some iodine in the water, it's good for the thyroid

iron for blood. Magnesium helps me not get annoyed

The meter's a little off...I think your poem is better:)

I am glad you wrote about this! I don't think I have ever seen it written so brilliantly :) I want to comment without taking away from what you have written; saying I have/and are there...well, so many times in my life. It is a horrible fight being mentally ill and having to take pills. I am so glad that you get out there and write though. You are seriously amazing!

AudraLeigh - You are right. Mental illness, or any illness, and a pill routine is horrible. I am glad that I could take some time to laugh at how ridiculous can seem... I am considering detoxing everything and starting fresh, but that is serious business.... Writing has really helped me to keep it together. Thank you so much for your encouragement. Words like yours keep me going in the times that I thinkthis whole writing thing is a waste of time.... hugs!

Hi Dana, sounds like me, one and a half for my thyroid, one for flushes caused by my thyroid, one for stress, another one later in the day for oh I don't know, can't remember! lol! seriously though if you need them then its good to go, only give them up if you feel safe without them, nell

    • DanaTeresa profile image

Dana Strang 4 years ago from Ohio

Nell - Ah yes. If you need them and they help, by all means take them. Unfortunately for me, more keep getting added. I don't know what works or doesn't, when to take what, and I still feel awful half the time. Blah! Oh well. What can you do. First and foremost is making healthy choices.

Wishhing you plenty of health and happiness.

Wow! I liked this poem and thanks to someone sharing it for you on Facebook, I made it here to read it.

Them darn pills are a trip right, well me and my wife are into eating all organic foods today, and so to stay away from such a fate of being chemically dependent.

Yikes I couldn't imagine how frustrating it would be to be like Alice and all. (:

Awesome creative poem here Dana, this one is going on that cool Pearl thing I shared with you a little while back.

      Thumbs up and out!

CloudExplorer - Always happy to see you... The pills are indeed a trip. Always adding, never subtracting. It is beyond frustrating. My insurance won't cover an inpatient detox, so now I must decide if I dare do it at home. You and your wife are a shining example of how we all should be living. I get a ot of inspiration and motivaion from you.

Thanks for the share on you "cool Pearl thing". It really is neat.

tobusiness - I just have to laugh at the situation or risk falling apart. It is amazing, the more we progress it seems the more we regress. TIme to take stock of where we are at I think.

Laurinzo Scott - wow. thank you for really taking time to think about this little poem of mine... yes. understanding. so many people say thy understand. but do they? Maybe by reading the thoughts, dreams, hopes, fears, and struggles of others might we begin to understand them... as much as this was a way for me to vent, this is a way to let people know how i feel, so that they might begin to understand..... Lauinzo, you amaze me with your insight. I thank you for seeing this poem how you did, and for letting me see it that way again.

It's so nice that you have such a good sense of humor about taking all the necessary pills! I'm lucky. I only take a hormone replacement pill cause I had a hysterectomy years ago.

I have a friend who has to take a total of 15 pills a day!
