Natural Home Remedies for Ovarian Cysts That Actually Works

According to Wikipedia, “An ovarian cyst is any collection of fluid, surrounded by a very thin wall, within an ovary”. It is said that a number of these cysts are harmless in nature but some cysts are likely to cause pain and bleeding too. However 95% of these cysts are of benign nature and may not be cancerous. Cancerous cysts are those which are filled with solid matter.

Ovarian cysts may affect women of any age group. These cysts are likely to occur during the child bearing years than during postmenopausal phase.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cysts:

  • Pain in the lower abdomen
  • Pain in vagina, pelvis or lower back
  • Tenderness in breasts
  • Irregular periods
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Frequent vomiting and nausea
  • Growth of facial hair or body hair
  • Headaches
  • Bloating
  • Infertility


Natural Remedies for Ovarian Cysts

Heat is said to be quite effective if you suffer from muscle cramps or pain in the abdomen. You may make use of heat pads or warm bottles.

Herbal teas are said to be good for treating ovarian cysts. You can make tea of chamomile, mint, raspberry which helps in soothing the muscles.

You should not try to withhold the urine, just empty the bladder as soon as there is an urge to urinate.

You need to drink water frequently. If you want you may add few drops of lemon to it also.

Bach flower, honeysuckle, walnut too are known to be good for treating ovarian cysts.

You can even opt for yoga and aromatherapy for treating ovarian cysts. They help in relieving the muscles and reduce anxiety too.

Gentle massaging of the abdominal area too is found effective. You can make use of any of the essential oils like Jasmine which can be mixed with sweet almond oil and massaged. Geranium Essential oil and Sage oil too can be used.

Some effective herbal remedies for ovarian cysts include black cohosh, chasteberry, false unicorn, wild yam.

(However it needs to be added that these herbs should not be taken by breast feeding and pregnant women.)

Vitex or chasteberry is a fruit of European shrub. This herb is known to possess anti-androgen activity. Though it is used by those women suffering from menstrual irregularities but it is found good to be used for those with cysts of the ovaries and breasts.


Diet for Treating Ovarian Cysts

Beyond doubt, a healthy and nutritious diet is a must for those with ovarian cysts. Two vitamins namely E and B are said to help in controlling the production of hormones.

Include more of green leafy vegetables, legumes, fruits in diet.

High fiber rich food is a must for those with ovarian cysts, in order to avoid constipation.

If there is inflammation, then go for foods like parsley, watercress.

Avoid consuming more of red meat and cheese products because they are likely to increase the chances of developing ovarian cysts.

You should avoid eating more of tomatoes and dairy products since they are said to be estrogen rich foods.

You need to stop eating soy foods.

Include only organic meat and dairy products.

It is better not to drink water from plastic bottles.
