Quit Smoking Aids-What I Used

Updated on May 16, 2010

Quit Smoking Aids-My Story

I want to tell you a little about quit smoking aids.  As many of you know a little while ago I did manage to quit smoking and now I want the world to know what I did and how I did it.

This hub is dedicated to quit smoking aids.  While there are literally dozens of quit smoking aids this hub will only be about what I used and how long I used it.

Eventually I will write another hub that describes many more quit smoking aids.  In fact in the near future you will be seeing a lot of hubs that will be dedicated to quitting smoking.

I most definitely consider myself an expert now.  Quitting after smoking 2 packs a day for 30 years has to give me some credibility when it comes to quitting.

So I guess I will get right into it and talk to all the readers about the quit smoking aids that I used to give up the nasty habit.

Quit Smoking Aids-Nicotine Inhaler

When it comes to quit smoking aids the first aid I used was a nicotine inhaler.

It really is a simple concept. You get a little whistle shaped inhaler and a bunch of vials of liquid nicotine.

You puncture a single vile in the inhaler and take drags on it just like a cigarette.

Of course there is no smoke and you are getting straight nicotine. To be honest the darn thing even tastes like crap.

However I started using the nicotine inhaler as my first quit smoking aids. It did help me get through and Im sure it could help many others.

The nicotine inhaler is very expensive and I have over 3/4 left. I guess it would be nice if they made the packages with a little less for those who required smaller packages.

Oh yes I forgot to tell you that each pull on the inhaler gave you about the average of a single drag of a cigarette.

They recommended 6 to 12 viles a day. The most I ever used in the four days I used the inhaler was 3 viles in a day.

Quit Smoking Aids-Gum

The next thing I used for quit smoking aids was the good old fashioned nicotine gum.

Nicotine gum has come a long way from years ago.  I remember years ago trying a piece of this gum and all I could taste was gross nicotine.

Well, all that has changed.  First off you can get the gum in many different strengths.

Secondly the gum now also comes in many flavors.

You would think the gum would be very easy to use but in reality the gum really sucks.  You see the whole idea is to chew a few times, store the gum in your jaw and let the nicotine seep into the blood stream.  Then you do all this again.

The problem I found was I ended up chewing the gum normally and then ended up swallowing nicotine which in turn gave me a bad stomach ache.

When it comes to quit smoking aids I really don't think the gum helped me much.  I chewed about 6 pieces and had the same gross out put each time,

Maybe the gum works for some but for me I think it falls into the bad quality for quit smoking aids.

Quit Smoking Aids-E-Cigarettes

The last thing I used when it came to quit smoking aids was the electric cigarette.

I have to say the electric cigarette is what got me through the toughest part of becoming a non smoker.

It was day three and I was having a hell of a time.  I was grumpy and I was close to giving up.  I am from Canada and the e cigarette isn't allowed here at the moment so it wasn't even a thought for me.

Well my wife and son knew a guy who had the e-cigarette and wasn't using it.  They went over and bought the almost new package.

I didn't know what to think when they brought it home but I thank god they did.  The electric cigarette in my opinion is the best when it comes to quit smoking aids.

I immediately stopped using everything else and just used the e cigarette.  3 days after I started using it I too put it down and that was it.  Now I don't use any aids and I feel great.

Quit Smoking Aids-A Few Last Words

While there are many, many more quit smoking aids out there in this hub I decided to focus on the aids that helped me on my journey.

I say helped because aids alone will not help you quit if you really are not committed to quitting.  The thing is no matter what you have to want to quit before you can quit.

Another thing about quit smoking aids is they are there just to help and not replace your smoking habits.

At the end of the day hang around people who are positive, use the right quit smoking aids, want to quit and it will all work out.

I would love to help people on their journey to quit smoking. I will admit I am looking at ways to monetize my quit smoking success.

The thing is I need to be very careful as to not fall into a trap of promoting sub par products.

I will get it figured out

How long has it been? Good for you. I quit some years ago -- just decided one day that I was too smart to do something so stupid and gave it up. Never been so happy about anything -- or so proud of any other accomplishment. Give yourself a pat on the back (or however many you want) from me. Lynda

I've always believed that the very best job in the world is to be able to work in the field that you are most passionate about.

Now you are exceedingly fortunate. You can combine two passions: that of writing and that of being a real, live example of a former cigarette smoker who can show others how to quit and, as a result, live more healthy lives. Go get 'em, tiger.

You will be seeing many quit smoking hubs from me in the future. It halps me to stay focused on quitting. If I can help others that is a great thing and why not make a few dollars from the niche

Of course, you ARE an expert now! Well done...! You are right though, no one can quit till they are 'committed to quitting.' I hope this helps lots of people fight this addiction. Thank you for sharing it... :)
