10 Quotes to Keep You Motivated
We all find ourselves riding the roller coaster of feeling motivated one day, and everything but motivated the next. We get surges of energy to get things done, be creative, be productive, etc. Then, often without warning, we don't know that we ever want to face what we were once so eager to conquer.
How can we keep that "I can do it, I want to do it" feeling longer? Sometimes friends and family can help keep us motivated, and sometimes a small nugget of success that what we're doing is working can feed our desire to keep going. Ultimately, the majority of wherewithal falls on our own shoulders.
I started writing the later part of last year and I have stayed fairly motivated through the last several months. I also just started a brand new venture with a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrJfnxn7jnJM2ZC2q6v0_zQ?view_as=subscriber) after much procrastination. Although I am motivated most days to make it succeed and grow, I know that I'm going to have days that I just can't muster up excitement and wherewithal to see it through the bad days.
I have compiled a list of my favorite motivation quotes that help, not only myself, but others to keep going when they don't think they can.
1. "A year from now you will wish you had started today." - Karen Lamb
I'm starting with this one because it's my favorite. I think it is so powerful. Think about it! We all know how fast a year goes by. Yet, when we think about how long it can take to achieve a goal, the time can seem insurmountable. If you can keep this simple quote in your mind, it can really put into perspective that the year will go by just the same whether you do what you've dreamed of or not. Why not make the time count?
2. "If you quit now, you'll end up right where you first began. And when you first began, you were desperate to be where you are now. Keep going." - unknown
It's SO easy (too easy) for us to be hard ourselves. If we focused on our strengths, success, and milestones as much as we sometimes focus on our weakness and how far we have left to go, we would be amazed at how far we have come. Yet, we focus on where we're not. When you find yourself doing that, try to see where you are now and compare it to where you were. It should inspire you to keep going and make more progress, just as you already have.
3. "It's always impossible until it's done." - Nelson Mandela
I would venture to say that, big or small, we have all achieved or finished something we didn't think we would. If you can remember something that you achieved when you didn't think you could, it will be easier to know that you can achieve anything you set your mind to in the future.
4. "Sometimes later becomes never, do it now." - unknown
The word procrastinate exists for a reason. It’s human nature to do it from time to time, especially with something we’re not looking forward to or feel like we have to do. We also procrastinate things that we dream of and would love to do. Why? Often there’s too little time, money, etc and sometimes it’s because fear of failure. Often it is just our fear giving us a million excuses. Don't believe it.
5. "The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles." - unknown
We get what we think about and focus on. If you stay goal oriented, eventually, you'll find a way. obstacles are inevitable but success is too if you stay the course.
6. "There is only one way to eat an elephant, a bite at a time" - Desmond Tutu
This quote is very personal for me so it is one of my favorites! As a first time home buyer (who was also buying a HUD foreclosure and using an FHA loan), my road to closing on my house was excruciating and long. My real estate agent (also a friend) just kept telling herself and me "Eat the elephant one bite at a time." We joked about how when the house closed, we would make a celebration out of eating the tail! It helped me visualize the fact that this was a step by step process. It could not be rushed. You can often only take one step at a time. However, it doesn't stop us from thinking that we need to look at a process as a whole.
7. "Its not about perfect, it’s about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation happens. That’s how change occurs". -
The key to almost everything is being consistent. Perfect does not exist, yet we try so hard to reach it. No wonder we end up disappointed! Just be consistent and do the best you can, always! Our best varies from day to day. What matters is the overall effort of what you put into something. Often it is equal to what you'll get out of it.
8. "If plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters." - Chris Guillebeau
Life is a series of compromises. Things are not always going to go our way. Some of the best things in life come from failure, tragedy, and things taking a different course. Be open and welcoming towards the path you're being lead to walk. Trust that the things that happen in your life are in your best interest even if you don't always understand why.
9. "What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals." - Henry David Thoreau
Life is about the journey. We often become so destination oriented that we forget life is happening. It's great to have goals but don't forget about the process. We become who are by going through things not just simply achieving them. The process, successes, struggles, and disappointments are what make us who we are.
10. "Be loyal to your future, not your past." -
The past is gone. Stop looking back. It is never to late to change the course of your future. We all tend to dwell on the past at times, it's human nature. Just don't let it consume and distract you. Move onward and upward!
11. "If you can’t stop thinking about it, don’t stop working on it."-
When you find you can't stop thinking about something, there's a very good chance that it may be your passion! Why deprive yourself of something that doesn't ever stray far from your thoughts. Sometimes we need a break or a pause from even the things we love. However, always try to move, even it's a tiny move, towards your dream or goal.
12. "You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously." - Sophia Bush
We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect. Why? We also sometimes buy into the idea that if we are not perfect we are not great. We all have things that we are great at and things that can use improvement. Needing improvement in one area does not take anything away from what we do well. Sometimes those things are different and sometimes they are one and the same. Let yourself be a masterpiece and a work in progress You deserve credit and the effort to be made even better!
