Serendipity, Nature and Truth
A few years ago in November a sequence of events came together to produce an exquisite scenario which I was fortunate enough to witness. A light layer of ice had frozen on the lake followed by some light rain which lay on the top. Then came a gusting wind which blew the layer of water into swirling pasterns on the ice followed by a cold night to freeze the patterns across the top of the ice. Then came a sunny day with the sun quite low in the sky because of the northerly latitudes and the time of year. As the sun rays shone through the unique ice patterns an assortment of coloured light was thrown out.
Sometimes in life a sequence of seemingly random and individually annoying events can combine to produce the most spectacular experiences.
This serendipity is not confined to nature.
Leading on from this, it is worth recognising how we each have a unique experience of the world depending on where we are standing. If I had stood on the other side of the lake with the sun behind me I wouldn't have seen the colours. If I had stood there the next day I wouldn't have seen the colours. If I wasn't interested in noticing the beauty of nature I wouldn't have seen the colours.
Everything about us creates the unique experience that we are experiencing.
But that doesn't mean that the world is how we see it. The world is as the world is and we all see it in our own unique way….and we all reflect it in our own unique way.
Just like a combination of ice, rain, wind, cold, sun, seasons and latitudes can come together to be seen as a dazzling array of colours so too in certain combinations my colours shine out in awesome lights.
There is no cause to argue who is seeing the "real" view of life or the world or the Universe or God. We are all standing in different places viewing the same awesome beauty from the myriad different angels.
We all have the ability to remember this so that when our brothers and sisters speak a truth that we don't recognise or we violently disagree with instead of trying to get them to change their mind and see what we see we could instead imagine where they might be standing in order to see what they see.
Being right never brings health and serenity
Being peaceful and accepting does.
But don't take my word for it, experience it yourself.
