Biaxin:

Biaxin is used to treat variety of bacterial infections and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It belongs to a family of drugs called macrolides. It is also used to treat sinus infections, strep throat and pneumonia. It is used with other medications to eliminate Helicobacter pylori. Biaxin treats bacterial infections and will not work for common colds and flu. The generic name of Biaxin is Clarithromycin. Some of the brand names include Biaxin XL and Biaxin XL-Pak. Side effects of Biaxin:

Some of the common side effects of Biaxin include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and headaches. Other side effects include dizziness, abnormal taste, heartburn and stomach upset.

Serious side effects and allergic reaction of Biaxin:

Many people using this medication, do not have serious side effects. Call your health care provider if you experience any of the symptoms:

  • Seizures
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar
  • Jaundice or yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • Seizures
  • Hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Irregular heart rhythm
  • Flu like symptoms
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Ringing in the ears

Allergic reactions: Allergic reactions of Biaxin include hives, swelling of the lips, mouth and throat, breathing problems and rashes.

How to use Biaxin: Biaxin comes in various forms which includes tables and suspension liquid. You can take this medicine with or without food. Biaxin works best if you take at the same time every day. Take this medicine as prescribed by your health care provider. Suppose if you take this medicine to treat infection, take the dose until you finish the full prescription, even your symptoms is over. Stopping the medicine early may allow the bacteria to grow.

If you miss a dose of Biaxin, take it as soon as possible. If it is time for another dose, then skip the one you missed and go back to your regular dosage schedule.
