Simply Beautiful | Time To Go Natural

Updated on June 20, 2013

Beauty has been a part of history in most societies. The mission to achieve perfection has gone mainstream in the U.S. as well as all over the world. Being beautiful is what people have strived to become for a long time. However, the pressure of the media has had a damaging effect on the psyche of individuals. Many have fallen victim to it. It's time to renew our sense of worth and discover that our unique natural beauty is something worth promoting.

Going Green & Living A Natural And Healthy Lifestyle

It's been a long time coming, but I have finally taken a stand to make the slow transition into going green, living a natural and healthy lifestyle, and taking better care of myself. Believe me, I tried to go cold turkey before and go all in with these movements in an effort to establish an eco-friendly, healthy, and natural lifestyle. However, it does takes time and effort.

Why Even Consider It?

Being aware of what you put in or on your body and how you affect the world you're living in is something everyone should take full responsibility for. All of us live here on the same planet. This planet is all that we have likewise this body, this heart, this mind, and this soul is all that we have as well.

Check Out The EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetic Database

EGW stands for Environmental Working Goup. Their website Skin Deep Cosmetic Database is packed with information about safer products to use, tips, advice, and product ratings on the products people use every day. It is easy to gloss over details when they aren't glaring back at you. The facts are now staring back at you. Will you listen?

Do You Know What You Are Putting On Your Skin?

A lot of beauty and hygiene products people use every day have toxic chemicals and ingredients in it. What supposedly helps make a person seem more desirable by achieving better hair or smoother skin can ultimately harm the person with long-term use.

Most people would love to remain blissfully unaware of the fact that their beauty products carry some heavy ingredients. However, I would take a good look at the links I added about the toxic chemicals founds in makeup. You may be surprised at what ingredients lurk in your own makeup and how they can affect you.

In an upcoming hub, I will embark on the world of natural beauty products. Yes, there are beauty products for skin care as well as cosmetics that are made with a high percentage of their ingredients being natural, cruelty-free, and environmentally-friendly.

Do You Know What You Are Putting In Your Body?

As people become aware of what they put in their bodies, people become aware of what they buy. They become aware of their health and what foods are actually good for them. Although, people know what is bad for them, people tend to use that 'ignorance is bliss' card. They really don't know how bad it is for them until they are faced with the facts.

Fast food is usually high in fat and high in sodium. Yes, most fast food places have their salads and other healthy alternatives, but most people aren't spending money on fast food for their salads or healthy alternatives. They are there for that quick and easy bite. Perhaps, that's where it all starts -- the convenience factor.

People want food fast and packaged ready to serve. So they opt for unhealthy options that they can pick up along the way that aren't too pricey on their wallet. The only problem that arise from this quick go-to idea is that they may be supposedly saving money now, but their health issues are continually rising. Their health issues will land them in the doctor's office. With that saved money, they are now paying for their copays to doctor visits or their medication needed to maintain their health. Why not use that money you supposedly save and use it to buy healthy food?

People continually complain about buying healthy food. It costs too much money to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They often point out that if one goes to a place like Whole Foods that their entire paycheck is gone. Yes, healthy food is going to cost a buyer more than a pretty penny, but the buyer is paying for high quality food. This food is being placed into one's body to fuel it. Why not do it the right way? Fuel one's body with healthy options that may cost a sum for the buyer in the short-term, but it won't cause one to stall out in the long-term.

Buying groceries at a place like Whole Foods will also help a person not to overeat as well. It causes the buyer to become more aware of what they put in their body and how they eat. A person who eats healthy usually doesn't require a huge intake of food. They eat what is needed for their bodies to maintain a healthy weight. Buying less food will also lighten up the buyer's wallet. The buyer may be paying more for less food, but the buyer is also paying for good food that will be good for the buyer's overall health.

Becoming More Aware Of Your Surroundings

As individuals become more aware of their inner self and begin to take care of themselves, they will become more aware of their surroundings. When an individual starts to realize what they put inside and outside of their bodies, they begin to understand how it affects them. This will later help them understand that these products harm them as they harm others as well.

The environment effects everyone, because everyone lives within the environment. Although, I am not among the many who desire to have a family, I am aware that my actions affect the world and affect the next generation. It is my responsibility to take action for my part in ruining the environment by becoming more aware of those actions.

If I can begin to...

  • recycle
  • upcycle
  • reuse

I can help the environment by not being wasteful. Something as simple as toting around a water bottle instead of purchasing plastic bottles of water can make a huge difference. Using earth-friendly cleaning products can help keep harsh chemicals away from the environment and from harming those you love.

Why Seeking & Nurturing Inner Beauty Promotes A Natural Lifestyle

As we become more aware of ourselves and our surroundings, we become more aware of the personal responsibility to change the bad habits we all have accumulated throughout time. When we strive to improve ourselves rather than shame or punish ourselves, we soon realize that there is much more to us than achieving beauty. It is not even about achieving perfection. It is about seeing the beauty and truth within you and learning how to use what you have learned accordingly.

Living a natural lifestyle is a choice. It is a decision to make a change that can be very difficult to go through. However, the outcome will make you the best person you can be, because you are causing your true inner beauty to shine out. You become more conscious about your own actions, what you wear, what you promote, and what you do. It keeps you accountable, because you learn that the way you live promotes improvement towards peace, compassion, and understanding.

Viva Jones -- Thanks! I was thinking to myself... I probably sound like I'm off my rocker, but it's something that means a lot to me. I'm glad I'm not the only one hanging out on this ledge tooting about going natural.

Vkwok-- Lol yes! Go green! Exactly! :)

A beautiful hub indeed! I've gone totally organic for my skincare/beauty treatments, and have always eaten a healthy (not quite organic though) diet. I'm also a fervent recycler. It's time we all learnt to treat this planet of ours with respect - as well as our bodies. I'm becoming increasingly alert to the spread of cancer, possibly brought on by all the toxics we unwittingly ingest. Loved this hub, voted up and beautiful.

Lol WL, I was writing this while I was writing my stories. Hubs like this can take almost up to a 2 days to sometimes a week (sometimes weeks) to complete. I love writing stories, but I also have many interests as well.

This was a rather informative and very interesting hub, Mae! I guess you're taking a break from your stories, which is good. Anyway, I'm glad I don't use any make up! LOL! Voted it up!
