Stay Active With Hobbies, Exercise and Socializing With Friends in Your Senior Years
Ah to be young again! The years go by so quickly and before you know it you are a senior citizen.
Once you have reached that time in your life as I have, are you ready for it? Have you taken care of yourself with proper nutrition and exercise through the years or are you trying to figure out what you can do now to live a long and active life?
Getting older can be depressing for some people especially if they have serious health issues. If you are fortunate enough to still be in reasonably good health then don't give up and give in to the aging process. Embrace each day with optimism and and make everyday a joyful one.
I know how easy it is just to sit in front of a tv or computer all day. If you are one of the many baby boomers retired from the work force, have you also taken retirement from life? Now is not the time to be sedentary, if anything you should plan each day with some form of exercise, hobby or other activity that interests you. The saying "use it or lose it" are words to live by.
Diet
Having energy and vitality has a lot to do with your diet. Everyone knows what and what not to eat. The internet is saturated with information on correct nutrition.
A yearly visit with your physician will also help with nutrition and health issues that may be a concern. If you have a clean bill of health then it is time to get moving.
Walking or Sport Activity
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise to stay fit and it doesn't cost anything. Taking a thirty minute walk a few times a week is good for the body and the mind.
Sometimes I take my camera with me when I go for a long walk taking photos of nature.
Listening to music while you walk is also relaxing or just walking in silence lets your mind explore your thoughts.
Playing golf, tennis, swimming, bike riding or other sport activity are excellent forms of exercise while also being enjoyable.

Hobbies And Socializing
It is never to late to start a new hobby if you don't already have one. Join a book club, take some type of art or craft class, learn a foreign language and If you are really up for it, try a dance class.
Learning something new is beneficial for the mind and spirit.
Is there a foreign country you have always wanted to visit? Some travel agencies offer discounts on cruises and airlines for senior citizens.
Volunteering is also a good way to meet new people. Schools, hospitals, churches and food banks are always looking for volunteers.
Not enough can be said about socializing. Having family and good friends in your life is important.
"The best way to keep your friends is not to give them away." Quote by Wilson Mizner
Laughter
""Laughter is the best medicine" is a saying that I have heard for years and I believe it, When was the last time you really had a good laugh? You know the kind where you are practically rolling on the floor with tears streaming down your face.
That happened to me last week when I was on the phone with my daughter. Our conversation started one way and then ended up with both of us laughing over some ridiculous thing. It felt good to just let go and laugh.
One benefit of laughing is that it relaxes you and can be a great stress reliever.
The senior years can be a happy and active time in your life. Don't be a homebody and let another day go by without enjoying them.
