Sweet Elaine

Updated on April 20, 2013

Sweet Elaine

Yes I know it’s time that we should be moving on

Still it’s hard to do

so very hard to do

so damn hard to do.

No disrespect to you.

And though it's only our memories

left to see us through

It doesn’t mean

surely doesn't mean

we will feel less for you.

Because tiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmeeeeeee

will not remain

nor leave past things

So we must find our place

to face what we must face

as we move forward

through heartless time

and heartless space.

And although what I've written isn't something new

still I've thought a lot

about how we all are

what is left of you.

And all the tears we've cried have not been in vain

not when they're for

our dear Elaine.

may fade away

and not leave behind

any trace.

But I know

there is more to this place

than any scientist

could ever calculate.

Yes it's time we should be moving on

still it's hard to do

so very hard to do

without you.

More than memories perhaps

will see us through

we can honor you

that's something

we all can do.

I know what I've put down is nothing new

just my thoughts...

my thoughts

of you.

I know the tears

will come again like the rain

But we have to be moving on

each of us

without our dear Elaine.

I hope that time will allow us

to erase the strain

and we will see again

our sweet Elaine.

      Very well done.

      You all loved your Mom.

      A bittersweet Christmas remembrance.

Indeed that is my mom. As I remember her. Hard to do this kind of loss justice. I knew I had to get something out and this is what came out. A longing for yesterday and a desire to want to welcome the sun again. This is the second Christmas without her and somehow harder than the first without her. We went shopping downtown and at the store we normally found her presents I was really hit with the finality that she is really truly gone. It was a very difficult moment. I'm sure my mom doesn't mind a few tears for her but she'd want us to move on and to live as good of a life as we can. That to me is how we honor her and her memory.

Are those photos of your Mom? You must miss her terribly.

Hope you have a happy holiday anyway.

Christmas can be a melancholy time as we remember our precious loved ones. But the memories are also sweet. As one of my clients said to me, "You are so lucky you had a mother you could miss." We are lucky. And it still hurts. Each year will bring more healing because tiiiiiiiiime is like that.

      Beautifully done. Thank you.
