How does a buddy help with weight loss?
Self-discipline and desire are key, but a buddy system helps when it comes to Weight Loss.
TIP FOR THE DAY: Until a person is serious about their own weight loss, and has the desire to succeed, no amount of pills, supplements, diet formulas, or books on the subject are going to make any difference. Weight loss takes self-discipline for the calories out vs. calories in to work in your favor, and when you seriously put it to work the results are automatic and visible. Self-discipline may be easier to sustain, if you have a "Buddy System" and there are two I know of which have had proven results: https://secure.shareyourhealth.com/depends on establishing a starting point and making your progress public (even if done anonymously.) The other was a group I initiated on aol.com in which each member reported their weight to the group once a week and received tips and support from the rest of the group on how to best reach their target weight. Anyone can do the same, though it is well to have a commitment of your own to your group, and be willing to spend the computer time to keep the group active and focused. The simpler way is to share your goal and efforts with family and friends, perhaps by sharing the goal to get the Body Mass Indexes (BMI) of the group to normal levels and chart the progress along the way by each participant having a graph of their "BMI Progress". The reason "Buddy Systems" work is quite simple. In a "Buddy System" you enter into a shared commitment to each achieve your goals and to document your progress. Self-discipline is still necessary, but you have made a serious, open commitment which doesn't allow for just making a meaningless commitment to yourself.
