Tea Tree Oil: All-Healing Wonder Oil

Updated on March 17, 2011

I decided to discuss the effects of this liquid gold. Literally, tea tree oil IS amazing. I realized a few years ago how amazing it truly was when my cat Micro came down with Ringworm. I applied tea tree oil directly onto the three spots he had a couple times a day for a week. By the end of the week he was all fixed up! Then his hair began to grow back and he is as good as new, like nothing ever happened. That was the beginning for me.

Tea Tree Essential Oil or Melaleuca Oil is made from the steam distillation of the leaves off of the native Australian plant, Melalueca Alternifolia. I use it for absolutely everything, I have thrown my bleach away because of this stuff. Its uses range from everything from in your bath, psoriasis, on your floor for mopping right to in a spray bottle with water to freshen the air.

Tea Tree Oil is a known anti-EVERYTHING (as I like to call it). But really it is. Its a anit-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-fungal. Its liquid gold with a million and one uses.

Dangers

Tea Tree Oil is NOT to be taken internally. You can on the other hand buy toothpaste and mouthwash with Tea Tree Oil in it, which is said to be safe amounts but still is not to be swallowed. Taking it internally can result in impaired immune function, diarrhea, possibly fatal nervous system depression, extreme drowsiness, sleepiness, confusion and coma. Doesn't that all sound fun... so be careful and don't let your kids around it and also its suggested not to use while pregnant or breastfeeding but as for myself (pumping breast milk) I still use it on my face, to clean the house and such because I would rather use that then bleach in my house. And to clarify I'm not saying I use bleach on my face!

Using Tea Tree Oil undiluted on your skin can result in skin irritation, redness and blistering. Although I do use it that way On my face. But only one drop and you can feel it. I use it on my CLEAN and dry face and sometimes in the shower AFTER I have soaped my face. Some days it stings more but it works great. Always do a test spot though, I would hate to see someone put it all over and be in a lot of pain or blister up. So be careful with this stuff.

Uses

There are so many uses for this wonderful oil its actually INSANE. Currently at home I use it on my face, in my hair, in mop water, on the counter, on the change table, to dust, in a water spray bottle for the air, on the stove in water, in the washing machine with clothes and more I can't even think of.

Below I have a list off all the uses I have found for Tea Tree Oil. Pretty much anything you can think of using Tea Tree Oil for, anything that needs to be sanitized or cleaned. Since there are SO MANY listed below I think you are able to google directions for yourself. Most of them are a couple to a few drops here and there, in a bath its usually about 10 drops five or take.

You can add Tea Tree Essential oil to a lot of different things. A few drops into Conditioner or shampoo, body wash and hand soap are some of the things I have done and it turned out very nice for me. You can also buy these things already with Tea Tree Oil in them as well as other things. There is a whole line at The Body Shop of Tea Tree Oil products that you can buy if you want. There's also lines of Tea Tree household cleaners. Although I find just adding a few drops to what you currently use for almost everything better and cheaper then buying whole lines. I just buy a tall bottle of Tea Tree Oil from Costco.
There's definitely tons of uses for this liquid cold and personally I think its definitely a must need in every home. I couldn't live without it in my home that's for sure. So if you enjoyed my hub and thought it useful please say so and feel free to make any comments. :)
