The Probiotic and Enzyme System

Updated on July 24, 2009

The problem

About three years ago when I was 54 years young, I noticed my system was not functioning as it used to. I had always been “regular.” Didn’t have any problems with elimination or digestion. All of a sudden when I was on vacation in my hometown of Los Angeles, I was unable to take care of my daily needs, and it was awful, painful, unexpected, and unbelievable for a healthy person like me. What was going on? I imagined all the terrible stuff that can occur in a human’s intestines, all the awful diseases associated with these complications, and frankly, I was really scared!

Nothing came about, and I was left to discover the source of my discomfort. I went through months of bad elimination, tried several types of colon cleanses, even performed an enema, but my system didn’t respond. Young people really underestimate the blessing of good “plumbing.” I imagined what might be going on in my blocked pipes, not at all a pretty sight – I visited websites that showed graphic pictures of the consequences of dysfunctional digestion. That was disgusting. I ate lots of salads and raisins and fiber to encourage some movement, but my stomach rejected all attempts to stabilize. I ate enough Activa to fill a swimming pool.

The Solution

Just when I was sure I’d have go through some radical treatment costing thousands of dollars a good friend suggested I start using probiotics and enzymes. Could it be that simple? She had started a regimen with them months earlier and they had cleared her completely. I immediately started taking the daily dose of a product called Jarro-Dophilus that contains 4.4 billion organisms per capsule. It contains 8 different strains of probiotic bacteria that are delivered directly into the small intestines where probiotic bacteria fully exert their beneficial effects.  What are probiotics? The term means “for life” and the organisms modify the gut flora to decrease harmful microbes by replacing them with these useful ones. Add some enzymes which assist in breaking down proteins, fats and carbohydrates and the result is amazing. As soon as I added these good gut guys into my intestines my system was recharged and effective once again.

Let me Explain

The main strain of organisms in the probiotics is the lactobacillus species, commonly found in yogurt and Activa, but the concentration is much higher. They restore the microbial balance in the digestive tract. The enzymes enhance our naturally occurring digestive enzymes that are secreted by our salivary glands, stomach, pancreas and small intestines. It is an easy fix to a very uncomfortable and potentially toxic situation as all that unprocessed stuff of course backs up and can contaminate one’s whole body. I felt like a walking mine field just waiting to explode. It’s over a year since I began using these easy to find supplements and I haven’t had any ill effects, only tremendous relief and revival of my whole system. I recommend using an enzyme-probiotic formula to everyone over 50 to avoid any possible lapse in one’s body’s ability to produce enough “good gut guys” on its own.
