The Spoiler
Kene met Nancy during their university days and they both fell in love, there was a positive chemistry between them, the kind of chemistry that make a man and woman to begin to see each other as perfect pairs even before they get to know much about each other. They were nicknamed 'kenaz' by their friends. A nick name Kene mortalised when he left school and set up his first company; Kenaz Trading company.
Nancy was nothing but his soulmate and they both did what everyone that knows them expected of them. Their wedding was graced by who is who in the society, the Governor of their respective states and top political juganots in the country graced their wedding. Their wedding was nothing but an exchange of culture and Nancy's mother who was a renowned event planner thrilled their guests with a colorful wedding which was well scripted. Infact, the news captioned the wedding Titanic because the reception was inside a cruise ship.
Nancy and Kene both came from two different backgrounds in a country where inter tribal marriage isn't seen as a nun but the practise is minimal and considering Kene's family status and his father's political muscle in the Eastern part of the country, nobody imagined that he would choose a girl outside his tribe and state but just like every other love story, Nancy struck him like a bolt of lighting the very moment he set his eyes on her and marrying Nancy was nothing but a dream come true then in return Nancy, the daughter of a prominent paramount chief from the south south of the country was filled with happiness for marrying her soulmate.
They both lived happily and were blessed with three beautiful kids but something that would shake their marriage happened twenty years afterwards. And Kene was left with nothing but questions to the most high; one day while praying to God, he cried from the bottom of his heart...
...Oh God my God, why me?
Life is full of challenges and how these challenges are handled tells alot about each individual and like every marriage, there are challenges couples face and the way they handle it determines the foundation on which they build their marriage. But one of the most difficult challenges people of all race face is health challenge, health challenge in marriage deters both couples because watching your spouse slipping away is heart breaking and that was what happened to Nancy because she watched her beloved husband lost the battle.
Kene was diagnosed of prostrate cancer at a very late stage and within months of that diagnosis, the day robber started robbing him of his mind and soul. Prostrate cancer is the most common cancer in men and it is a silent killer though early detection is one of the keys to winning this demon. But how many people knows the signs and symptoms? Kene is one of those people who doesn't understand anything about this day robber. He was placed on antibiotics when he first noticed changes in his body, the frequent urge to urinate and the difficulty he experienced during urinating all pointed to prostrate enlargement but he didn't understood.
It is true that prostrate cancer affects older men but as a man climbs the ladder of maturity just like Kene who was diagnosed at 52, the man becomes prone to this spoiler. Prostrate cancer mortality is gradually increasing in Africa so it is advised that men generally take few things into consideration. There are usually no symptoms during the early stages of prostate cancer. However, if symptoms do appear, they usually involve one or more of the following:
-Frequent urges to urinate, including at night
-Difficulty commencing and maintaining urination
-Blood in the urine
-Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection
Advance prostate affects the spine and it is very aggressive just like Kene's condition. And the treatment is quite expensive because it requires months of chemotherapy but that doesn't guarantee winning the battle because Nancy broke down as she watched the coffin lowered six feet. She wept and one more time reminded us that love is not medicine.
