The meaning of grandmother

Updated on September 7, 2011

Do you know the meaning of a Grandmother?

On this day, September 7th 2009, I lost my grandmother.

My grandmother made me understanding the meaning of grandmother because I daily wish I could do something to bring her back even though she left at an advanced age of 115. This is because she made me never to get enough of her. She was always willing to gave and do anything to make us happy.

I remember when she refused to eat because my younger brother was not happy. She said, “I won’t eat until you are happy or you tell me the problem so that I can do something about it.” My younger brother mentioned it in his tribute to her. She refused to eat and because of that my brother had to be happy and assured her that all was okay so that she could eat.

The interesting thing about grandmothers, especially when they are very old, is that they once again behave like children in some of their dealing or ways of life.

Maybe not all grandmothers do that but we know that old age has an effect on people. For instance my grandmother would give anything she has to anyone that requested for it even if it has value. It is as if she no longer valued some things which most people value and treasure.

She thought me the meaning of a grandmother because she made me understand that:

A grandmother is not only one’s mother’s or father’s mother.

A grandmother is one that will be there for her children.

A grandmother is one that is willing to do all she could to make her children happy.

A grandmother is one that is happy to see you, her grandchildren.

A grandmother is one that can protect her children.

A grandmother is one that will always want her children to be happy.

For space will not be enough for me to tell the world about you, your love, your strength, and your prayer. That is why I say this little poem for your memory.

“ your dear devoted ways are too numerous to mention.

You are like a fresh lily in the dry season. of the moistures within it which can never dry.

For face is continuously seen in my mind’s eye. For you are a special mother a mother that many desire to have.

For you are good that I remember you today as my treasure and my measure.

You are my lovely grandmother and you are the true meaning of grandmother.”

Rest in peace, my world greatest granny.
