Think Twice Before You Sip Your Coffee!

Updated on July 23, 2019

There are two types of coffee lovers, one who just drink it and others who feel it. If you are one of those who run on a steaming cup of goodness, then hold onto your taste buds before pondering upon your cuppa.

Your coffee mug has a lot to do with the taste and health. While selecting a coffee cup for savoring your favorite drink, one of the most essential decisions you should make is the right material. Whatever material you will choose it will have an impact on your drink.

The cup you use to sip your brew is more than just a vessel that holds your coffee. Whether you choose a paper cup, ceramic mug or stainless-steel thermos, the taste and effects of the coffee mug that you choose will vary from each other.

Let’s throw some light on the influence of coffee mug material over your health.

Plastic Cups- Say No to Plastics, Please!

By now, we all are probably aware that plastic isn’t a good idea as they are made of BPA and polypropylene, so when we pour a steaming coffee into the cup it tends to release the chemical which have negative effects on kidney and liver. Also, it leads to obesity and other health-related problems. Plastic possibly could be the worst thing you can do to your body. Hence, it is extremely vital to select a cup which do not play with the taste of your drink and health at the same time.

Ceramic Mugs – Poise Yet Poisonous!

Better than the plastic ones, but these are toxic, too! Ceramic mugs are lacquered to make it look shiny and smooth. These glazing contains lead and cadmium that makes a ceramic cup a hazardous coffee vessel. Unfortunately, coffee is highly acidic in nature and it makes lead and cadmium to leach out the toxins faster. Always make sure to pick ceramic mugs which are lead free to enjoy a healthy brew.

Steel Coffee Mugs – Sturdy but Not Safe!

Although steel coffee tumblers are one of the most durable beverage holders. But they also come along with numerous health hazards, too. These stain-less steel mugs are painted with metallic paints which aren’t that healthy. If the mug gets scratched from outside, its safe to drink from it as long as it does not get tempered from inside. A scuffed cup from inside can release metal fillings that pose poisonous threat to the health. Ensure to use a steel mug which is free from metal fillings or use a cup which is BPA free and eco-friendly.

Paper Cups- Soggy and Not Safe!

Piping hot coffee in a paper cup isn’t a good option either. Hot coffee will melt the paper and will ultimately make the cup soggy which will inevitably wind up in your drink. This will bring down the flavor and release toxins which will hamper the health.

Always pick a reusable cup for your favorite brew for the sake of nature and your health.
