Tips on how to maintain healthy kidneys
It is important to have proper functioning kidneys. Your kidneys are looked upon for a variety of functions in your body such as hormone secretion, blood pressure regulation and excretion of wastes.

Drink adequate amounts of fluids a day. It is suggest to drink at least 6 to 8, 8-ounce glasses of fluid per day. This can consist of soup, water, cooked grains and boiled vegetables. Learn more on how much water you should drink a day.

During summer months, if you live in a warm or hot climate, you may need to increase your fluid intake. Don’t just follow the rule above. Because during hotter times of the year, you excrete more waste product in the form of sweat.

Reduce or eliminate fruit juices other than cranberry juice. Cranberry juice has been studied to be very beneficial to the bladder and kidneys. One important note, though. If you have had kidney stones in the past, you may want to limit or avoid cranberry juice altogether as this has been know to be a promoter of kidney stones.

Salt can benefit kidneys. However, too much salt can be harmful. It is important to maintain balance.

Avoid drinking too much coffee and dark teas. Green tea is fine.

Get adequate protein in your diet. However, excess protein is not recommended. Aim to get more plant based protein compared to animal based protein.
