Top Acne Fighting Systems

An acne treatment system is designed to help clear up acne, pimples, blackheads and whiteheads, and also repair your skin in the process, so you can have clear, healthy skin.

It is called a system because there are several steps to the process, usually consisting of these three:

  • A deep pore cleanser
  • An oil-reducing toner, and
  • An acne repair lotion

The system works well for all ages from teens to adults. It is available over the counter and does not need a doctor's prescription. There are no pills to take, as all of the treatment steps are topically applied to the skin.

There are several acne treatment systems on the market, and they function basically the same way.

Three Steps in the Acne Fighting System

Cleanser

The cleanser can be used like any liquid soap. It will likely contain an acne fighting ingredient, like benzoyl peroxide. or salicylic acid.

Toner

The toner works to reduce inflammation on a pimple. It is likely to be simply witch hazel, an inexpensive ingredient that has been used for centuries as an astringent.

Repair Lotion

The repair lotion works basically like any acne medicine, like Clearasil. It contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid and is used to clear up acne and other blemishes, and to minimize future outbreaks.

There are extra products that are sometimes sold as a part of the system, such as a blemish zapper, a clarifying mask, or a moisturizer.

Most versions of the system don't have a strong smell, and go on clear on your skin, so you can use them without anyone knowing. You don't need a prescription and avoid the side effects of any pills.

It is not completely without problems, however. When you are using the system, you will want to avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use a sunscreen, since the ingredients do cause sensitivity to light, and your skin may become irritated. The medication can also bleach hair and dyed fabrics, so you want to avoid spilling it on anything that you don't want to change color.

Some people may experience redness or irritation when first starting to use the system, and may need to start slowly to give their skin a chance to acclimate to the benzoyl peroxide.

Proactive Solution

Proactive Solution was the first one on the market, and is sold through the mail. They aggressively market their product through infomercials. I frequently see their brochures in my advertising mail and newspaper. It is a registered trademark of Gutju-Renker Corporation.

I have not seen this product at a lower price, but many times they will offer free shipping, or an additional product, like under-eye cream, or a mask, to entice you to buy it.

Copycats

There were many companies that attempted to copy the system, and have been quite successful.

These products are called:

AcneFree Clear Skin System comes in different strengths, regular formula, severe acne, sensitive skin.

Klear Action Acne Treatment

Murad Acne Complex Kit

Exposed Acne Treatment uses herbal blends to calm skin in a spa quality.

Care Natural Tea Tree Acne Treatment Deluxe System uses natural and organic ingredients in their skin care treatment.

These companies mainly rely on the heavy marketing done by Proactive, and hope to receive residual business, although they do some marketing on their own.

Some of these products are available at drug stores such as Walgreens, and department stores such as Walmart. Even though their prices are not considerably lower than Proactive, you can save money on shipping, and save extra money when they are on sale.

Existing Companies

Even existing skin care companies now offer systems.

Avon, which sells cosmetics and other skin care treatments through a representative coming to your house or online, now offers Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System.

Clean & Clear sold other acne medication, and expanded their line to include the system, called Advantage Acne Control Kit.

Clearasil, already a popular manufacturer of acne treatment products, also expanded their line to include the Ultra Acne Solution System.

Neutrogena sold other skin care cream and expanded their line to include the Complete Acne Therapy System. Their repair lotion includes sunscreen (SPF-15).

Review of Acne Treatment Systems

My daughter and I have tried Proactive, AcneFree and Klear Action, and they all worked effectively for our acne. Since all of them had the same level of effectiveness for us, I basically bought the one that was the lowest price and most convenient to obtain at the time.

We tended to use up the cleanser first, and had extra toner and lotion remaining, since we were not using all three steps of the system routinely. Sometimes we were able to find additional bottles of the cleanser that were sold separately so we would not have to purchase a whole package the next time.

The system would work well best for people who are willing to take the time to use all three parts of the system routinely. If you are not, you will want to research whether you can purchase these products separately.

Top Acne Fighting Systems

There are many ways you can prevent and manage acne. If these steps don't work for you, you can add a cream that has Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid, or an acne fighting system like the ones mentioned in this article.

These systems offer three or more steps to help clear up your acne and prevent future breakouts. Because it is a system, you need to be willing and able to follow the entire regiment. The acne treatment system will clear up your pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads, help you avoid future breakouts, and leave your skin clear and beautiful.
