Many of us are already too familiar with the multiple faces that depression has. And in addition those many faces can be seen as calls for help, from the many afflicted ones, who suffer from its often debilitating effects. You may have a loved one, or even one or more friends that; have been restrained by this ugly visitor, who leaves their world not only in an upside down state.

But also leaves that individual enveloped in a dark cloud mass filled with nothing but continual gloom and sadness. Most likely you have heard this same story repeated over and over and are now all too familiar with the story of depression and the consequences it causes for those effected by it.

If you yourself have ever experienced depression, or even the winter blues, sometimes referred to as (SAD) seasonal affective disorder, then you literally are on the same page that i'm on. Maybe you are not totally alone in your batte against depression and a member of the family who lives with you, a son, or a daughter, for example, may also be experiencing depression as well. Or they feel the grief and hopelessness that you already have been entrapped by. A similar experience that a fly may go through after being trapped in a spiders web for some time, before having the internal fluids entirely sucked out of it.

You may have even sought out the advice of a few psychiatrists or psychotherapists, to help you cope with the depression and shed a bit more light on the problems associated with it. All in a effort to get on with your life once again.

However most of these trained professionals who work within the mental health field, trying to help you through your dismal times, are no different then you or me. They are made up of flesh, blood and bone, just like you and me. And like most human beings, also have emotional feelings that bring to the- good-days along with the bad.

Even though their intentions are sincere and they want to help us-not to be pessimistic in any way. But the truth of the matter is; psychiatrists and psychotherapists can do so much talking and convincing until they are literally blue in the face. Sure they can pull out that old prescription pad in addition and write you a feel good pill. However the question is which feel good pill, will be your guiding light, in helping you rise above those dark clouds already embedded in your mind?"

So in an often fruitless effort, a continuing regimen of antidepressants, or feel good pills are prescribed to help escalate your overall mood, so that some of those dark clouds hanging over your world may dissipate enough, to let a few lasting rays of sun shine upon that clouded world of yours. In fact you may already have tried almost every new antidepressant on the market and are basically tired of feeling like a guinea pig.

To add to your frustration, you soon found that they did nothing for you, but made you more sad and tired then before. Or that they really made you feel good for, maybe two weeks to a little over month at a time. To only find yourself slipping right back into that cloud of gloom, darkness and despair.

Lexapro, Cymbalta, Pristiq, Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor XR and Savella are more then likely a few of the newer medications, as well as a some of the older ones; that your healthcare professional has prescribed for you, or that you may have viewed on a television commercial, or read in a magazine. And as previously touched upon, they either did absolutely nothing for your depression-or possibly helped for only a brief period of time.

Well don't give up the ship just yet. Because as is the case with most illnesses depression also gets better with a little time and patience, which is a key to many things in life-having patience! No problems are solved over night and Rome wasn't built in a day. Never the less depression is definitely an ugly cut that needs more then just a bandaid placed over it, to make you feel better again.

In addition you have to remember, that there is a deep emotional gash, that is for the most part caused by a real chemical imbalance, that is no fault of yours. But with the proper medication and along with a proper diet and combination of vitamins and minerals, you will soon be on that road to recovery. And to help you reach that road of recovery is where Wellbutrin XL, also known as Bupropion, comes into play. Buproprion is the generic name for Wellbutrin and is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline.

Wellbutrin is not only effective in treating depression, it has also been shown to be effective in treating a few other conditons in addition depression. I will mention some of those other benefits that Wellbutrin has later on in the article. But for thetime being let's take a look at the beneficial effects it does have on major depression (SAD) syndrome which is often associated with clinical depression. Wellbutrin XL, is not just one of your typical run of the mill pick-me up and make me feel antidepressant drugs; that come along once in a great while.

It is without a doubt, a good deal more then the aforementioned and if you are already somewhat familiar with this drug, or know of people who may have benefitted from it. Then you initially have not lost your place and are still on the same page that I was on, near the beginning of this article. However you have managed to follow me up to this page. So that means you are either bored, or are yearning to know more about the benefits of Wellbutrin Xl.

But remember with all good things, also comes with it consequences. And wellbutrin Xl it not exempt from this fact. Because with the positive effects it has on a depressed individual, it can also have some negative side-effects, as you will discover further, as you read on. But regardless of this try to remember that the side-effects if bearable, bring with them many positive results. So you always have to consider weighing in the bad with the good. That is generally the situation, or case with any medication whether it's used to treat depression, or heart disease and cancer for example.

Wellbutrin XL certainly can be a successful combatant in taking the wind out of depression, there's no doubt about that. And just to reiterate on this a bit more, this is the main reason why this drug was manufactured in the first place-to make you feel better again, in order for you to sail out of that cloud of doom and hopelessness and onto new horizons.

Wellbutrin Xl, or Bupropion the generic equivalent of Wellbutrin Xl; is unusual in how it works on individual neurotransmitters in the brain compared to some of other antidepressants on the market. For example the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors-(SSRI's) and Tricyclic antidepressants...Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft and Elavil to name a few which belong to this class of drugs. Elavil the later belonging to the tricyclic antidepressant category. Wellbutrin Xl targets the chemical in the brain called dopamine, while all of the others previously mentioned target serotonin, and neurepinephrine for example.

Wellbutrin works in this unique way, by basically picking up dopamine in addition to serotonin and neurepinephrine. The aforementioned class of drugs do not achieve that desired goal. So in essence dopamine is not lost or recycled in the process of these chemicals being transmitted over to key nerves in the brain when Wellbutrin is employed.

An individual suffering from depression, will almost always have an imbalance of the key chemicals...dopamine, serotonin and neurepinephrine. Once again Wellbutrin Xl enhances the overall good effect experienced, when all of these chemicals are working in unison with one another. Doing so by not only targeting serotonin and epinephrine, but also by singling out, or targeting dopamine in the process.

So as you can see for yourself Wellbutrin may well be a last resort when it comes to battling depression. However in its other form Zyban, it has been proven effective to assist smokers in withdrawing from this th often difficult to kick habit. Wellbutrin XL, or Zyban is used in doses of 150 mg. once a day, up to three days at a time, to help an individual with smoking cessation.

If you have tried dieting in the past and were unsuccessful in your attempt to shed unwanted pounds. Here is where Wellbutrin Xl also proves to be beneficial, by curbing your appetite, by literally zapping your urger for food. In fact this is one of the major downfalls of Wellbutrin, in terms of causing unwanted side effects. But then again, this all depends on what viewpoint you look at this from. If you want to lose weight. Wellbutrin is just one other effective method to help you achieve this task. It has shown to help those with weight issues, given at doses from 300 mg. once a day up to 450mg. once a day.

In treating major depression or (SAD) syndrome for example, a typical starting dose is 150mg. per day, up to three hundred milligrams per day. If you're doctor does prescribe this drug for you, for depression, or any other of its intended uses. He or she will inform you of how to take this type of medication. But it's still always important to ask questions when ever in doubt. Wellbutrin is also started out at the lowest possible starting dose, to always minimize the risk of unwanted side-effects.

But as briefly touched upon in the article-side-effects are not always avoidable with any medicaiton. And if the benefit outweighs the risk, then you should try by all means to adhere to the advice if given to you by your healthcare provider. However not to the point where you become so sick. No medicine is worth that even Wellbutrin, no matter if it makes you feel well or not. Trial and error is always the best rule to employ here while trying any new medcation.

I know of a few indiviuals whom I have spoken to in the past and their feedback about Wellbutrin or Buproprion, was always positive. A few of these individuals were even prescribed Wellbutrin Xl for their previously diagnosed bipolar disorder. So as you can see this medication has a wide variety of uses and they are not only limited to treating major clinical depression.

In addition to the person, or persons I had spoke to in reference to this medication. They went on to say that Wellbutrin was literally a life saver for them and without it, they would have given up the ship and/or basically lost all hope. So as you can see there is some light after all that; is peeking out from over the previously dimmly lit horizon, which I spoke about earlier.

Hopefully I have opened another door for you by having read this article on utilizing Wellbutrin Xl in your fight to combat and win over depression. I have included all of the positive benefits of the medication as well as its multiple uses and have also mentioned all the good consequences that a antidepressant such as Wellbutrin can offer. However never only remember the good-because there is also the bad and the ugly characteristics that come with anything whether it be a person, or a medication that appears to be very effective in remediating symptoms of depression.

Wellbutrin does have its share of side effects-some bearable, while others are not. Just remember to be aware of things like unusual amount of nausea, vomiting, sleeplessness and night sweats, to name a few of the possible side-effect profile that can be associated to taking Wellbutin Xl. But if the medication does work well for you and your are able to cope in the end, then you are more than half way home and have practically cleared the hurdle.

Just never give up the ship-stay focused, stay determined but most of all be a little bit stubborn as well as persistent. Depression may not be something that just entered your world overnight and most likely it is something that will not go away in a week, or two. Remember too that the Roman Empire wasn't built in a day either. It may indeed take a lot of hard work on your part, but in the end you'll thank yourself; not your doctor for helping you climb up and over above that clouded world of oblivion.
