It's no secret that times have gotten tough. Not only are hard times affecting us in the United States, but it's gone globally also. More and more people are falling prey to the hardships that life sometimes bring. Unemployment continues to remain high, and jobs are still hard to come by for some. Many people who have jobs have had to take pay cuts, and the rising costs of living are leaving people with less money. Everyone knows that we need money to live and survive. There are many people who believe that having money is the best definition of how successful a person is. I personally find this to be untrue. In this article I'm going to point out a few ways that we can better ourselves with little to no money. Please read on.

Exercise and fitness.

This is probably the best way for us to better ourselves. Many people fail to realize how great of a weapon that exercising can be. Regular exercise can improve our health, prevent certain diseases, and improve our overall well-being. The best thing about regular exercise is that it doesn't cost a thing. Contrary to popular beliefs, you don't need a gym membership to workout. You can exercise right in the comfort of your own home. Popular exercises such as; sit-ups, push-ups, crunches, and jumping jacks don't require any equipment to do. Running, which is another popular form of exercise is another routine you can use for health. All you need is a good pair of shoes, and an area or track to run at. Walking is another low impact and cost effective form of fitness.Taking care ourselves is one of the best investments we can make in ourselves. You can't fully enjoy your life if you aren't healthy.

Reading books.

We've all heard the phrase "Reading equals knowledge, and knowledge equals power". No matter how many times we hear it, it's definitely a true statement that deserves repeating. Reading books are one of the best ways we can improve ourselves. We all have certain talents and things we are interested in. If we take out the time to read about the things we are passionate about, we develop a greater understanding of them. Having a better understanding allows us to take the knowledge we gain and use it to better ourselves and others. One of the best things about gaining knowledge is it's limitless. Once we become more knowledgeable of things we are interested in, the sky is the limit to what can be accomplished with it. Most public libraries are free to use, so checking out books doesn't cost us anything. This is definitely a great way to better ourselves with little to no money.

Develop strong social skills.

The world we live in today is a very social oriented society. The phrase; "It's not what you know, but who you know", is more important more now than ever. Knowing the right people can be a huge factor in getting ahead in life. It's doesn't cost anything to have a conversation with people. Go to events and functions that you enjoy, and just talk to people. You never know who you will meet. You may encounter someone who can help you career wise, or with various other interests you may have. If you don't have strong social skills, try building them up. Developing stronger social skills is something that I'm personally working on getting better at. I'm not saying go and talk to everyone you see, but remember that talking to others can be a confidence booster. Having more confidence in ourselves allows us to face the challenges of life with a more positive outlook.

Try to develop a strong family foundation.

This coincides with having a good social circle. Having a strong family is another asset for being a better person. No matter where you are or where you end up life, it all starts with your family. If you have a great relationship with your family members, you are likely to feel better about yourself. Take time to call up your family members once a week or more. If you live in the same city as them, go visit them. A lot of times when things get tough in our lives, our family members are the ones who can help pick us up. Try to develop and keep a strong bond with your family.

Summary.

It doesn't take much money to better ourselves. If you are an individual with little or no money, don't give up on yourself. It's true that we need money to survive, but no amount of money defines who we are as a person inside. Improving our overall well-being goes beyond how big our bank accounts may be. Lets focus on bettering ourselves physically and mentally. By doing this, we can greatly improve our chances of changing our lives around for the better. Thanks for reading.
