What Are The Best Color Combinations To Use In Art

In whatever artist endeavor you undertake, you want to make sure that your work is harmonious and pleasing to the eye. Choosing the right color combination is crucial to having a respectful masterpiece.

To know the optimal color combinations, you should first understand the meaning of different colors on the color wheel.

Colors can be divided into three components-primary colors, secondary colors and tertiary colors.

The primary colors are red, yellow and blue. The secondary colors are purple, green and orange. Secondary colors can be made by mixing two primary colors. The tertiary colors are a mix of primary and secondary ones. Examples of tertiary colors are red orange, yellow orange, blue green, blue violet, yellow green, etc

Some color combinations are the monochromatic color combinations, the triadic color combinations and the contrasting color combinations

The monochromatic color combination is made up of different shades of one color or colors that look the same. Examples include blue with light blue, yellow with orange and pink with purple.

The triadic color combination is made up of the primary colors-red, yellow, and blue. You can change the shades of the colors to fit your preference. For example, you can use red with yellow or pink with a light blue.

The contrasting color combinations consist of contrasting colors in the color wheel. Contrasting colors are opposite each other on the color wheel. Again, you can also vary the shading. Examples of contrasting colors would be purple with green or red with blue.

The monochromatic color scheme is most appealing to the eyes. The colors are very strong and saturated. I would recommend using this color scheme in your art.

You can find many interactive color wheel applications on the internet and as desktop applications. They can be used to help pick matching colors for your design.
