What Is The Connection Between Snoring And Sleep Apnea?

Snoring is a common problem, one that millions of people around the world suffer from today. Snoring can be bothersome to you but also to those around you if you are a problem snorer. If you are a snorer, you should consider the possibility that you have sleep apnea. These are not the same conditions and instead snoring is a common symptom of sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea can be quite serious which is why doctors are always so eager to get snorers checked up, to ensure there is nothing more serious at play. The reason that doctors are so serious about a condition like sleep apnea is because it can be quite dangerous especially if it goes untreated. A person with sleep apnea may experience pauses or breaks in breathing while they are sleeping. Some people will awaken suddenly while they are sleeping to find themselves restarting breathing or they may wake up in a sweat.

If you have a snoring problem you will want to get in to your doctor so they can perform a few tests and see whether or not you have sleep apnea. With just a few standard tests your doctor can determine whether or not you have sleep apnea. Remember it is better to be safe rather than sorry so even if you do not end up having sleep apnea at least you got in to see your doctor and made sure. After the tests are complete and it is determined as to whether or not you have sleep apnea, if the tests are positive then your doctor will work to figure out what type of sleep apnea it is.

This is important because the symptoms and treatments for each type are quite different. Obstructive sleep apnea is typically caused by some sort of a breathing obstruction. Doctors will be able to see a blockage in the airflow and use this to determine whether or not you have obstructive sleep apnea. Then there is also the central sleep apnea which is also considered to be quite serious, and this is a central nervous system disorder that causes delays in a person’s breathing while they are sleeping.

If you snore you should not automatically assume that you have a health condition like sleep apnea but it is definitely worth it to get checked out. Sleep apnea can become life threatening if it is left untreated for a long period of time. There are different health problems which can result from sleep apnea so it is always better to get treatment as soon as possible, to avoid problems like high blood pressure and memory problems. The earlier you get started on treatment the better chances of success you have. Owing to delayed sleep syndrome, people usually get into many troublesome situations. They earn the title of night owls from people around then they keep requesting family members to help them wake up on time which increases dependency on others. It gets very hard for them to focus on their work during morning or daytime.
