Why Do Some Studies Show Salt is Bad for You & Some Show the Opposite

At age 16 I was a volunteer at a hospital bacteriology lab. I became a chemist for U.S. government. Then I studied health & related fields.

Why is There the Conflicting Information on Salt

This article is about the conflicting information on salt. There are studies that show that salt is bad for you. There are also studies that show that salt is good for. In fact they show the exact, not approximate, opposite that the other studies show. The more salt you consume, the less problems you have that are associated with ingesting salt.

This was written February 9, 2016 when Bernie Sanders won the primary vote in New Hampshire by 19% of the vote. Now if you hover on the picture to the right, you will see an i. If you click on that you will get the article that the picture is from. It says:

Although we need salt in our diet, many of us consume more salty foods than are good for us. Excess sodium is the likely cause of preventable heart attacks and strokes.

This is like saying that rust and chalk are necessary in your diet because they contain iron and calcium. Rust is iron oxide but it is not iron. Chalk is calcium carbonate but is not calcium. I was a chemist for the U.S. federal government. So salt has sodium in it since it is sodium chloride but is not sodium.

Also what is the difference between these 3 things and an apple? An apple is a food and the other 3 things, including salt, are not. So there is a need for sodium, that is in all foods, but there is no need for salt at all. In fact wild animals never eat salt.

So the article that I will base this on is an article of Dr. Joe Mercola. He is a doctor of osteopathy but they can do identical work as a medical doctor. Now this information is very important since some doctors have their patients on a no salt diet. His article is called Reducing Salt Intake Might Harm Heart Failure Patients, Study Claims.

It says:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) recommend limiting your daily sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams (mg).

They advise a further reduction to 1,500 mg (just over one-half teaspoon) for people who are age 51 and older, African-American, or who have hypertension, diabetes or chronic kidney disease (this encompasses about half of the U.S. population).

However, there are very real risks from eating too little salt, and population-wide recommendations to restrict salt intake to very low levels could in fact increase rates of a wide range of diseases.

Research published in JAMA [Journal of American Medical Association] also found that consuming less than 3,000 mg of sodium per day may increase your risk of dying from heart disease.11

Now please note that just in case he is trying to fool you that the FDA says the first 2 paragraphs while the last one is said by him. There is a game called Simon says that works by trying to fool you. You only follow the instruction with Simon says before it. So the leader will say "Simon says touch your toes" so people will touch their toes. Then he will say "Simon says touch your knees" and people will touch their knees. Then he will say "Touch your head" and some people will do it. They lose since they were not supposed to do it.

Now the last paragraph does not say what he says that it says but he does not know that and other people do not know that. So what does it say exactly? It says:

Compared with baseline sodium excretion of 4 to 5.99 g per day, sodium excretion of greater than 7 g per day was associated with an increased risk of all CV [cardiovascular] events, and a sodium excretion of less than 3 g per day was associated with increased risk of CV mortality and hospitalization for CHF [congestive heart failure].

Now it is talking about the sodium excretion. So what is that? It is talking about the amount of sodium in the urine. See other studies estimate how much sodium of salt was consumed. But this measure exactly how much is in the urine. Now they assume that the sodium excreted will be proportional to the sodium consumed. Maybe you heard the saying that when you ASSUME something, you are trying to make as ASS out of U and ME.

Now there is a case when you consume salt and none comes out in the urine! This is caused by the SWF that is Single White Female or Salt Water Flush. You put 2 teaspoons of salt into a quart of water and drink it. This article says:

By drinking a sea salt solution, we can use the bodies own defense mechanism to temporarily suspend “digestion”, and engage the “elimination” mechanism to remove the salt water as fast as possible from the body.

The Salt Water Flush is a unique and perfectly suited hack as the salt water passes quickly through acting as an top-down enema of sorts.

So instead of this salt water coming out in your urine, it goes through the large intestine or colon cleaning out the colon as it passes through. In other words it comes out of Uranus (your anus). Now I have an article for the best way to Clean Your Colon.

Now if you urinate out all the excess salt that you need to, then it cannot hurt you. It is in your urine and then the toilet but not in you. Not only is salt not a food but is a toxin. This is the above is referring to it when it says "defense mechanism to temporarily suspend 'digestion' ". So it actually the reverse that the more salt you consume, the less sodium you urinate. When you consume more of it, your body holds on to it and this makes you store more water to dilute this toxin.

Here is an analogy. Who do you expect to have more nicotine in their urine, the person who smokes 2 packs a day or the person who does not smoke at all since he just quit? In fact who feels worse? The person who just quit since his body is getting rid of nicotine at an accelerated rate. Now it has been determined with tests who has the most sodium in their urine. These people have massive amounts of salt or sodium in their urine.

In fact they have so much sodium in their urine they feel really bad like they have been poisoned. I know all about it. It happens when one is not consuming any salt at all. Now how can you consume no sodium at all when all foods contain sodium. Let me give you a clue. The people who have done it includes Moses, Jesus, Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi. They fasted where they consumed no food at all and so no sodium.

Now if they have less sodium in their urine means the more that they consumed, it means that everyone of those studies completely agree with all the other studies. That is why I pointed out that they had the opposite results. Now let us take us take Beyoncé. She lost 20 pounds in 10 days on the lemonade diet. Note that is where they said that the salt water flush was optional.

Now some people will say that most of the weight that Beyoncé lost was water weight. That is great. Water weight looks worse than fat. I have an article about Losing Weight With the Lemonade Diet. Since the lemonade diet has no salt, it has a little sodium so she lost that excess salt (through her urine) and was able to get rid of all that retained water to dilute the toxin known as salt.

Now that article mentioned above by Dr. Mercola talks about the sodium to potassium ratio. Now he kinds of says this but I will make it clear. In fact this might be the most important part of the article. There are unprocessed foods that were made by God or nature to help your health. They have no salt in them not even fish or seaweed. Processed foods are made by man that puts salt in them and they are there to make you fat and addicted to food. They put salt in sweet things also.

Now the unprocessed food have a ratio of at least 10 times the potassium level to the sodium level. Processed food usually has more sodium than potassium. Do I need to tell you that eating 100 pounds of food at one time is not healthy. A tablespoon of salt has the sdium of 100 pounds of unprocessed food.

Wikipedia says:

The sodium-potassium pump was discovered in the 1950s by a Danish scientist, Jens Christian Skou, who was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1997.

In order to maintain the cell membrane potential, cells must keep a low concentration of sodium ions and high levels of potassium ions within the cell (intracellular).

They cause you to eat more since not only is salt not a food but research show that is addictive as heroin. See Why salt is addictive: It stimulates the brain cells just like cigarettes and hard drugs. But once marijuana is legal, they will put in food and people will eat a lot more. People will kick and scream if you try to take it out. They will even make it illegal to label it as whether marijuana is in it or not. Of course all of that is conjecture (an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information). I cannot predict the future.

So nature or God has put the right ratio of potassium to sodium in your food but man throws it way off with salt. In fact have you heard of the paleo diet? It has no salt at all in their diet. None. Zero. Nada. See Paleo or Vegan Diet. It also tells how some people, including nutritionists, want to add salt to it. Next thing that you know everyone that eat like an average American will say that they eat the paleo diet.

People will say that salt makes things taste better. Ask anyone. I say that they are wrong. Just taste pure salt or salt water and it tastes nasty. In facts when Jews like me celebrate Passover we use salty water to remind us of the bitterness of being slaves (sweat is salty). Now it does taste salty but sweet things do not need to taste salty.

Now I have an article that shows that salt is the only cause of high blood pressure that everyone gets if they live long enough. It has a 5 minute video with Michael Greger M.D. showing this and where he gets the figure that salt kills over 1,000 Americans per day. It even has a link a link to a webMD article that says that consuming salt is worse for your health than smoking. See How to Live 30 Years Longer.

Now some Americans believe in God but all believe in money. Dr. Mercola sells Himalayan salt and says that regular salt is not healthy even though the studies that falsely says that it is good for you, use regular salt. His article that I first mentioned says:

There’s also hyponatremia, in which your body has too little sodium, causing fluid levels to rise and your cells to swell.

Now this medical doctor and I were having a discussion about salt that went on for awhile on a forum. Then he brought up hyponatremia and how a lady died from it. Now this was a very famous story in the news even if it does not sound familiar. So I read it and saw he stopped reading it. Also I learned from reading it. Now the idea of mentioning this was that having too little sodium caused this woman to die so if she had consumed more, she would still be alive.

But here is what he did not read and what I learned from this article written by experts. Having too little sodium in the body has nothing to do with how much sodium you are consuming. Then what does it have to do with? It is not about the total sodium in the body. It is about the concentration that depends on 2 things. The sodium in the body and the water in the body. So what causes this problem?

Now when I told him what the article said then the discussion ended. So I am keeping up the suspense. What causes this condition is drinking too much water. So this is the famous story of the woman that drank too much water. and died. Now see if you can use this information to figure out the following. Now you know that people take in way too much salt and do not die.

So what about the opposite of the above-- hypernatremia. What causes one to have too much salt in the body that it kills them. It is actually lack of water or dehydration. So this is the technical term of what they die of when they are dehydrated. So when you hear that many do not drink enough water, this also means that they are taking in too much anti-water or salt.

As far as anti-water, why can't you drink seawater if you desperately need water. Well if you do, you become more dehydrated. How can drinking water make you more dehydrated? Because it contains too much anti-water or salt in it. By the way the subject that this is all about is chemistry. Chemists learn that there are many salts beside common table salt that is called salt for short. Note that common table salt can save your life. It is the same stuff they put on frozen streets and sidewalks to keep you from breaking your neck. Who knows, maybe Himalayan salt is better for your sidewalks then regular salt.

Now you can look up how toxic things are. They have the LD50 chart that refers to how much is required to kill 50% of the animals. Now you can see from this LD50 chart that salt is 10 times as toxic as refined sugar. Salt is only one third as toxic as metallic arsenic. Also you can see how toxic strychnine, sodium cyanide or sodium fluoride is. Please note that they put the last one in some of drinking water.
