Stop Worrying about Money Problems

Updated on July 16, 2011

The title of this Hub is easier said than done. If you are like me, the current economy has got you worried about your finances. I worry about my money problems day in and day out. It often keeps me up at night. Financial problems are like a living nightmare that you cannot ever wake up from to escape. They don’t go away just because you decide to ignore the situation. In fact, your money problems, if ignored, can get worse over time.

However, there is a flip side to this situation. Constant worry about finances does not improve the situation. Worrying does not make the problem go away or mean that you are necessarily actively doing anything to improve your situation. The reality is that worrying is about as unproductive as ignoring – each path leaves the problem untouched.

Nothing solves money problems overnight. There is no real easy money or quick solution unless you know someone who will give you money without expecting something in return. And, if you have someone in your life that is like that, than you don’t really have to worry. For those of us who are on our own, we need to think proactively instead of worrying about our future.

Make a plan and stick to it. If you are unemployed and searching for a job, you keep at the job hunt. You take temp jobs if available. You keep sending our your resumes and going to interviews even if it feels like you aren’t being successful.

If you are like me and have trouble paying all of your bills, you keep trying to find extra ways to make money. Everything takes persistence, patience and time. All you can do is try your best and do your best.

Bad things can happen to any of us. We can lose our job, lose our home and lose everything. You can do your best to prevent total devastation by building up your savings and preparing for tough times. Even though worrying does not help and actually increases the level of stress, we worry. It is hard to stop worrying. But, worrying drains you and leaves you with little energy to be your proactive and productive self.

What to do Instead?

Here is a list of things you can do instead of worrying that you can do without spending a lot of money:

  • Write about your life experiences and share it with others
  • Volunteer to help someone else to take your mind off your own troubles
  • Go for a walk to see something beautiful in nature
  • Read a library book about something or someone far removed from your own life
  • Spend time with family, friends or pets and do something you love with people you love
  • Think of everything that you are thankful for and take a moment to be thankful
  • Work on a puzzle
  • Play solitaire.

Once you have calmed your mind. You are ready to develop a list of things you can do to begin to get rid of what is worrying you and actually do them ~ turn a hobby into something that can earn you cash, think of extra ways to save money, network with others to help find new job opportunities and vision yourself being successful.

Bottom line: stop worrying and have faith that everything is going to work out.
