A life Of Being Disabled
When people hear the word Disabled they right away get it in their mind that we are stupid, unable to think, unable to do things and are a vegetable most of all that we are a burden on society and the Government.
They shy away from people who have handicaps and disabilities, thus thinking we are not human and we are not productive in our lives. They have been taught that we are incapable in doing anything in our lives and that all we do is live off FREE money or handouts, which is a persons closed mindedness and the way they were taught all through their lives.
Disability comes in many forms. Depression, a physical handicap such as living in pain each day of our lives. Some have down syndrome, some have heart problems and breathing problems etc. Many who used to live a normal life have been injured and now are unable to work out in public and most have given up thinking they too are incapable of working or doing anything to make their lives more productive. This is the Wrong way of thinking. Especially those who have a physical handicap.
These people do not sit down and talk to God first and foremost. They don’t realize that they too are special and are able to obtain the strength of God to pursue a career one way or another. Those who have given up are the ones who are useless in society but there are many like me who will not give up, its God who is pushing us through.
Sure, a lot of us are handicapped but this does not change us from being human beings. There are a lot of famous people such as Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Christopher Reeve, David Blunkett, Thomas Edison, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Steven Speilburg and Perry Mason just to name a few. Many other famous people were handicapped in one form or another. Some had made history throughout their lives but continued with the struggle to purse their careers in inventions, acting and writing, etc.
Living with disabilities does not stop one from doing what they want to do in their lives; they get more motivated as to what they want to do in their lives and how to work around those disabilities. I have a disability, a few disabilities as a matter of fact. I find ways to work around those disabilities each day to try to live a normal or as normal a life as can be. I own a farm that I am setting up from scratch. Yes, it puts me in more pain and I cant breath well but I taught myself to take more and more breaks and if i am hurting too much, i just don't work for that day or two until the pain subsides.
Its also hard for me to sit and write a lot of the times. I love writing, so I endure the pain and write to ignore most of the pain. This is my passion and I wont let my disability stop me from doing what I love to do.
This has to do what God has placed in your heart, your mind, and your soul, and how you as a disabled person find ways to go after what you want to do in life. With the help of God, this as you can see is possible.
When society sees that disabled tag on your car or a placard in your windshield, just hold your head up high. Ask God for strength and you will shine and be as normal as any normal person who has no disabilities. Guess what, keep telling yourself this, that all though people look fine on the outside, they too might have a disability inside that is hidden.
It’s a known fact that even people without physical disabilities, do have some sort of disability on the inside such as depression, heart problems, asthma, COPD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, fibromyalgia, or migraines. Just to name a few of the disabilities that is called hidden disabilities.
So the next time people see a disabled person and stares at them, they too may be disabled and they either are hiding their own disability or do not show they are disabled.
Yes it’s an everyday struggle to live with a disability, but if you put your mind in action and time to better use than to feel sorry for yourself, you also can figure out with God’s help what to do with your life if you really want to accomplish some of your own goals in life.
This is set in your heart, mind, and soul. It’s time to take action to not go stir crazy in the house or go into depression deeper thinking like the other folks think that you are useless. No one is useless in this world. God put you on earth for a reason. Talk to him and he will guide you as to what you can do even while being disabled.
Most of all, don’t listen to small minded people who cut others down about having disabilities for they do not know what it’s like to be disabled and the pain or mental illness you endure and live with on a daily basis. Keep strong and Keep to God. All people are special in their own way, we all are Gods children keep the faith, and you are as good as any person who does not have a disability.
We as disabled persons can live an almost normal life if we put our minds to the task and with perseverance we can do almost anything God has put in our hearts.
