My Four Months Experiment With Intermittent Fasting
To be honest I am a fitness lover. I like to keep my mind and body in good condition. Some say I got good genes from my parents. I also remember that I remain an active athlete from 1995 to 2005.
In those years, I got many chances to represent my school and college. And I even have more than fifty trophies as my testimonials that how much I love athletics and outdoor activities.
But over the years my body gained excess weight. I stayed alone for ten years in New Delhi, India due to my various jobs as an advertising professional. There was no particular time to eat due to our work schedule. And I was young and full of energy so we kept on working day and night without any worries.
But now time and age has changed. It demands proper care and a much higher fitness level. Few months back I was over eighty kilograms. But today, I am almost seventy-four kilograms. So, today, I want to share how I made this changes with the help of intermittent fasting.
What Is Intermittent Fasting?
Before you read further please note I am not a dietician. I have learned this technique online and applied on myself and got results. Your body type may be different and may react in different ways. So, it is better if you can consult your doctor or any dietician in your area.
First of all, we should know that intermittent fasting is not a diet but it is a dieting pattern. In this process, we eat during a particular time duration. There are many versions of this but I followed one particular pattern.
I have used the pattern which is known as 16-8 method. In simple words, I will not consume anything after 8 pm till 12 am the next morning. So, I will be on the fast for the sixteen hours in a stretch. During this process, I can consume only liquid like water, tea or juice but heavy consumption of them in the regular interval is not allowed. For example, I cannot drink fruit juice in every two hours and say I am doing intermittent fasting but yes I am allowed to drink the water.
So, during the remaining eight hours i.e 12 am to 8 pm, I am allowed to take breakfast, lunch and dinner. But remember there are other patterns of intermittent fasting but I used this pattern.
What Actually Happens During Intermittent Fasting?
Well, the most important point which I can tell you about intermittent fasting is that during this process your body start burning your fats. And that’s how you burn and reduce your body fats. This is the only reason why I started using this dieting pattern. Since you will be working during this process, so your metabolism will be high and it helps in burning your fats fast.
My Observations and Results
1. In the beginning, when I tried this pattern of intermittent fasting I faced difficulty as I never kept myself hungry without food for such a long time i.e sixteen hours.
2. My stomach used to produce gases and I could easily hear them inside my stomach. To overcome this issue, I use to drink normal water a lot of times.
And after seven days later my stomach stoped producing gases as my body started adjusting to the new routine and food pattern.
3. It is only after two-three months later I slowly started seeing the results of this technique. Some of my old students when they use to meet me they use to ask me how I could reduce my body weight like this? And then slowly my friends and parents also started appreciating that I have reduced so much weight.
4. But I also went ahead where I don’t take any breakfast each morning and I just take only lunch and dinner. I take a heavy lunch and a very light dinner. During the lunch hour, I take proper food grains as well as fruits. And for dinner, I take just one roti, vegetable or some light rice.
My friends, I use this dieting pattern because I felt I can do it. But I know many of us will find it difficult. And the main reason I can do it because I am an Online Digital Entrepreneur and I stay and work from home. So, I found it easy to adept.
I hope my real experience with the intermittent fasting can give some hope and help. Although I have seen the actual benefits for this dieting pattern but I will highly recommend to visit a doctor or a dietician before trying to use it.
