    Having worked with Alzheimer patients on a daily basis I feel the most impact this disease has is on family and personal battles of the person who has it. I have seen daughters and sons and grandchildren come in everyday hoping that the parent/grandparent will recognize them for even a second. And I have seen family slowly dwindle away from visiting at all with all hope lost. asking themselves why they should visit when they won't recognize them anyway. Personal impact for someone who has it is a battle of tryign to recall who a person may be knowing they should know who their visitor is and yet not able to find the connection. Anger in a patient with alzheimer's is common. Frustration because they may feel they are of sound mind and yet they are stuck in a nursing home for reasons that are quite clear. It's sad to watch the family and their frustrations with hope and sad for the patient slowly wasting away. The end result of alzheimer's is horrifying and yet they finally get peace in the end.
