The diagnosis of bipolar disorder needs to be made by a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

In addition, you need to make sure they are board-certified in psychiatry and a licensed PhD in psychology.

Terms like bipolar and other psychiatric diagnoses have become everyday lexicon but it takes some testing and sessions with a specialist to make that determination for sure.  There are people who are cyclothymic, where there are also variations in mood, but the swings are not that large as in bipolar disorder.

    See a specialist.

Ditto what Dr. Emily said. I have bipolar. You need a mental health dr. They will treat you.
