Mucus is a secretion produced by the mucus membranes in the digestive, reproductive, respiratory, and urinary tracts. Mucus is white, yellow, or clear, and is a slick, viscous fluid with the consistency of jelly. Mucus is often passed along with stool in people who have ulcerative colitis or irritable bowel syndrome.
