What causes leech bites to bleed so much?
We went to Northwood state park and kids swam in lake and got numerous leeches on them when we pulled them off they bled like crazy.
They produce an anticoagulant, which keeps the blood from clotting where they attach. When you remove the leech, it takes a little while for the anticoagulant to clear the wound, so it bleeds more than usual.
