Introduction

A normal human being cannot survive more than 3 days without drinking water. Drinking enough water is essential for our body to function properly. Water help us in removing waste from our body. It acts as a source of energy. It keeps body temperature in control. And there are many more functions of water.

Water is essential not only for adults but even for kids and pregnant women. So, in this article, I will explain the health benefits and my personal methods of drinking water. I want to share some of my practices and experiences which I follow. So, let’s begin.

Drink Water First Thing In The Morning

Well, from generations it has been proved that drinking water is beneficial for health. And therefore, we must drink water first thing in the morning.

Now, you may say so what’s the difference? Well, the difference is in the way we need to drink water. So, the first thing is when you drink water early in the morning, your metabolism increases. Water directly cleanses your large intestines and it prevents unnecessary constipation. For better results try to drink lukewarm water.

Second thing, our mouth consists of saliva and it has been proved that saliva is good for digestion. Therefore, it has been advised that drinking water early in the morning without brushing teeth benefits a lot.

I know it sounds a little different but this is beneficial for health. And if you are having a problem with this method, brush at night and sleep. Or after drinking water you can brush your teeth.

Now, what is actually saliva? Well, to know more about this, read the second point.

Drink Water SIP BY SIP

Now the second important thing I want you to understand is drinking water sip by sip. Yes, I practice and drink water sip by sip. What this actually means and why this is important but still nobody talks about this?

As you know 50% of food break down should take place inside our mouth. And our mouth consists of saliva. You see there is only one important organ in our body through which we intake food i.e mouth.

In simple words - saliva is the watery liquid secreted inside our mouth. This saliva provides us with enough lubrication. Further, this helps us in chewing, swallowing and digesting the food items.

Saliva has its own bacterial enzymes but these are actually beneficial for our health. So, when you drink water sip by sip, these healthy saliva gets inside our digestive system. And this is beneficial for our health and metabolism.

Avoid Drinking Water Just Before Or After Meal

I understand, this may sound very hard to practice but yes this is the right way. Earlier, I used to drink water as soon as I used to finish my food.

Then, I read somewhere that it is not the right time or way to drink water like this.

Now, if you are thinking what’s the reason behind such logic or method?

Well, when you eat something especially food, your body temperature goes up. And this is the natural process which the human body follows. This mainly happens because our body is trying to generate enough heat to break and digest the food.

But when we drink water immediately after taking food, we stop this natural process.

And this is not good for health in the long run. Therefore, we must avoid drinking water just 30 minutes or after one hour of our meal. Try this, your digestion will improve. I have been following this routine for the last 1 year and the results are good.

Avoid Drinking Chilled Water At Any Cost

I know you might say what you are saying Vikram? Well, first hear me out. Drinking chilled water straight out of the fridge is not good for health.

When we drink chilled water it decreases our body temperature. It affects our normal digestive system. The second reason, when we drink chilled water, the food inside our digestive system becomes solidify/hard. Due to this reason, our body starts to store more fat and we become bulky in shape. And this way, we increase our weight.

Therefore, always try to drink lukewarm water and this is best for the body.

But if you will say what we should do during the hot summer season? At that time use clay pot for storing water and don’t drink water directly out of the fridge.

It has dual benefits - first clay pot water is more beneficial for health and it will save electricity bills. But during normal days, please avoid chilled water and do drink lukewarm water.

Avoid Drinking Water In The Standing Position

A few months back I received one video in one of my WhatsApp groups. In that video, one gentleman was talking about how his clinic helped patients to reduce their joint pains.

In that video, he advised his patients to avoid drinking water in the standing position. And start drinking water in the sitting position. But he also advised his patient to drink milk in the reverse order i.e in the standing position.

Well, when we drink water in the standing position it hits our digestive system directly. Therefore, try to drink water in the sitting position and sip by sip. But I know since childhood we have been drinking water in the standing position in many occasions. So it's a little tough for us to change this habit. Try this method only for 21 to 30 days and it will become your habit.

Conclusion

I have shared almost all important practices which I follow on drinking water.

Now, before we complete this topic, let me share a few points on how much we need to drink on average.

Although there is no scientific method to decide the number of litres one should drink. Because it all depends upon the person’s age, sex, weight, daily activity, region etc.

But still, if you are an adult and work every day normally then I personally advise drinking at least between 2-3 litres of water. Or in simple words drink at least 8 to 9 glasses of water per day.

And if you stay in some desert area drink more than 3 litres of water it’s ok.

Simply taking water is the best way to stop your body from dehydration. The second best source of water is taking juices. And the third-best options are eating foods especially fruits that contain high amounts of water.

So, friends remember drinking water is a very important and essential part of life. When you drink water in the right proportion then you will not feel tired, stay fresh, your skin will glow, no headache, no chances of dehydration. And you will be simply at the best of your health.

And yes, always remember “Water Is Life”.
