Are you interested in learning how to use crystals for healing and peace?
Crystals have been used for healing for many centuries. Ancient people understood that physical ailments could manifest from the mind as well as the body, and that energy influences us more than we realise.
Crystal healing works through resonance and vibration. There are crystal healing practitioners who offer healing sessions, but with a wealth of crystal healing information available in books and online, and an even greater wealth of crystals available to buy in shops, it is extremely worthwhile learning how to use crystals for healing yourself.

How Does Crystal Healing Work?
Crystal healing is a holistic therapy, which means it works on the body as a whole, rather than just the physical symptoms. It is a form of energy healing, which works on a vibrational level and heals on an emotional, mental and spiritual level as well as physical.
Energy healing works on what is known as the aura - the subtle layers of energy that surround our physical bodies - and on the chakras, which are focal points or wheels of energy at various points on our bodies.
Our bodies are made up of vibrating particles, and vibrational or energy medicine works to keep us in balance and harmony. If our energy bodies are out of alignment or blocked, then these problems can manifest as physical ailments.
Crystal healing works by modifying and adapting healing energy. Each crystal has a different vibration and consequently, different properties. Using the correct crystal in the correct way can lead to issues within our own energy bodies being healed, due to the crystal transforming, absorbing or transmuting stuck or negative energy.
"To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour."
- William Blake
Basic Methods of Using Crystals for Healing
To begin working with crystals, you need to choose, cleanse and dedicate the appropriate crystals you want to work with. See How to Use Crystals if you need information on how to do this.
There are numerous ways to use your crystals to heal yourself, including:
Laying on of stones: This can be as basic as placing a crystal on a particular part of your body you wish to heal - for example, placing an amethyst crystal on your brow (third eye) to heal a headache. Or it can be more complex and involve several crystals laid on your body, or used in combination with quartz points. Quartz points placed facing towards the area of ailment will bring energy to the area. If they face away, they will drain energy/pain away from the area.
Wearing Crystal Jewellery: Wearing a particular crystal means that its energy is close to you all day, and is therefore working on healing you all day. Remember to cleanse your crystal regularly as it will be absorbing more energy through heavy use.
Carrying or Sleeping with a Crystal: An alternative to wearing a crystal is carrying it around in your pocket, or even sleeping with it under your pillow. Our bodies heal more rapidly at night because we are at rest and our bodies can focus more energy on restoring us to health.
Clearing the Aura with Crystals: A large clear quartz point or wand can be used to "stroke" the aura and cleanse it of negative or stagnant energy that may be causing blockages and physical ailments. To remove such energy, stroke the aura with the crystal and every now and again, flick it away from the body.

I have numerous books on crystals and crystal healing, but Hazel Raven's beautiful large format book is always the one I turn to first.

Michael Gienger's Crystal Healing, Crystal Power is another favourite book of mine. That and the following crystal healing books are all very useful in their content and showcase of healing crystals.
Best Crystals for Healing
All crystals heal. They will work in different ways depending on the properties they possess. However, some crystals are especially good for healing because they are either master healers for all ailments, or they enhance the healing properties of other crystals. Such crystals include:
* Clear Quartz: A master healer that can be used to heal in general for all ailments. Clear quartz can also be used to cleanse the aura, as a "pain drain", or to enhance the healing of other crystals.
* Amethyst: This crystal can be used to heal a large number of ailments, from headaches to hangovers, spiritual blockages to cleansing away negative energies.
* Rose Quartz: As well as healing the heart and heart ailments, among other things, rose quartz is adept at helping you develop self love and peace, which are key factors in healing.
* Blue Kyanite: This stone has tremendous healing power. It is a stone of balance and a natural pain reliever, as well as working on infections and other specific problems. It is a great stone for bringing the body (especially the back/spine) back into alignment.
* Chakra Stones: These are crystals that work in harmony with the chakras. Placing a corresponding crystal on each chakra helps to activate and balance the chakras and facilitate deep healing. These would include, for example, a red stone for the root chakra, such as carnelian, an orange crystal for the sacral chakra, such as sunstone, and so on. Read The 12 Chakras for a list of corresponding crystals for each of the 12 main chakras.

These beautiful videos explain some of the healing properties of different semi precious stones, such as amethyst, ruby, peridot, rose quartz, angelite, aquamarine and kunzite.
Crystals for Peace and Inner Calm
Physical dis-ease manifests from emotional and mental dis-ease. If you are peaceful and calm inside, rather than stressed, angry or any other number of negative emotions, then you are much more likely to be healthy in the physical sense, too. So crystals that help maintain peace and inner calm are also extremely important when it comes to using them for healing.
Such crystals are best used in combination with meditation. Daily meditation helps you to connect with your core self and heal from a core level. Using crystals during meditation can help you connect to yourself, to the earth and to the cosmos. The more you do this, the greater the inner peace you achieve, meaning greater awareness and living in the moment.

Crystal Grids and Layouts:
Crystal Elixirs: Crystal elixirs or essences contain vibratory signatures to help heal or address different problems. They are usually made from distilled water and a little brandy, with the crystal sitting in the water for a certain length of time before the water is then bottled and used. Always refer to a crystal essence book or other guide when making your own, as some crystals are toxic or simply too unstable to be used in water.
Crystal Wands: Crystal wands can be used to draw pain or ailments from the body, cleanse the body, send energy to the body, balance the chakras and more. They range from simple single crystal wands, to beautiful crafted wands that consist of a large crystal wand with numerous other crystals embedded in it.
Crystal Reiki: Crystal Reiki combines the strong energy healing of Reiki with crystals to offer a powerful healing experience.
More information on all of these methods of crystal healing will shortly be available on my page here. See the links further down below for all the current pages in this crystal healing series.
