How to Become A Non Smoker

Well here's my story I smoked for 25 years.
I stopped counting the amount of time's I quit.
Some of the times when I quit it would last for a few hours to a few days. I tried all the usual methods like the patches & nicotine gum plus loads more and I thought I cracked it when I started using one of those electric cigarettes which use liquid nicotine. But after a few days I burnt the throat out of myself with the liquid nicotine and could hardly talk for about a week.
I was years trying to quit and was about to condemn myself to a life time of smoking.
When I heard of this new tablet you get from the doctor called Champix. It makes you want to stop smoking and yes, I also heard all the horror stories that come with taken this Champix. But I wanted to try it.
So I got my prescription from the doctor than went of and bought my four week course. I started taking them on a Monday and a week later. Here I am still smoking as if I was taking nothing. But I was told I should keep smoking and after a while I just won't want a fag. So week two came and went and still smoking. Week three finished and still smoking.
So here I was now with five days left of the tablets and still smoking and still wanting to smoke. I gave up waiting for the tablets to kick in, and decided I was just going to try and stop.
Day 1 : No cigarette it was hard but I was determined to go 24 Hours. At the end of the day I thought it was hard but not that bad. The next few days went the same way this Champix seemed to be doing the job.
I took the last Champix tab on a Monday so the next day was going to be the first day without the Champix tab. When I got up the next morning the first two or three hours were ok but than the cravings really started to kick in.
It was a nightmare all I wanted now was a cigarette. The Champix was fine when I was on it. The cravings were not to bad. But now it was just like Day 1 of giving up the fags again. In fact it was worst than Day 1 As I had tried giving up plenty of times before. But Day 1 was never as bad as this.
I even had the shakes and could not think straight. So I just said to hell with this I am just going to get a packet of fags.
On my way I walked past a pharmacy and something made me go in. It was the best thing I ever done and I came out with the Boiron Quit Smoking Care Kit. I am now off the cigarettes a year and a half.

I guess what I am trying to say is that, I tried loads of different types of stop smoking things over the years, which never worked for me. In the end I found one that did help but you have to want to give up as well or else you are wasting your time.
So if you are thinking of giving up don't be afraid to try different products because what works for one may not work for the other.

Plus I was also told this when I was a few months of the fags. I don't know if it is true for everyone but it seemed to be true for me. It seems the more you smoke the easier it is to give up. I know this seems mad, but for me I was a heavy smoker and was very blocked up from them and always seemed to have a cough (which by the way was never the fault of the fags). So after a few weeks of the fags my cough disappeared and my breathing cleared up. I could feel the air going into my lungs and it felt great. Once you get this feeling you will find it very hard to put a cigarette back into your mouth. But if you are a light smoker and not all blocked up from the fags you won't get this feeling.

If anyone is thinking of giving up, than best of luck it is hard but it is worth it. My advise is take something to get you through the first few weeks and once you can feel the air going down into your lungs again. Than you will know what its like to be a non smoker.
