Why I Decided to Use Light Therapy Lamps to KEEP SAD Away

Updated on November 6, 2015

NatureBright SunTouch Light Therapy Lamps

SAD is a huge problem for many people including me during the long winter months. So I know just how miserable and exhausted you can feel. Energy to walk a few hundred yards seems to evade you. Your thinking diminishes to the point that putting a coherent sentence together seems like climbing Everest and you just don't function anymore.

This is the state I found myself in after a particularly bad winter. So it is I decided to research SAD lamps or light therapy. NatureBright SunTouch Light Therapy Lamps are proper SAD lights that helps those who suffer with SAD and depression over the cold dark winter months.

SAD is miserable as you feel down and lethargic all the time due to not having enough sunlight. They do say if you stock up on vitamin D during the summer months that should alleviate the problem but for many of us winter is a long, long time of a mild state of depression or worse.

NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp Keeps The Winter Blues Away

Sphere Gadget Technologies Lightphoria, 10,000 Lux Energy Light Lamp
Sphere Gadget Technologies Lightphoria, 10,000 Lux Energy Light Lamp

The NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp helps keep the winter blues away. Some people suffer with SAD more than others, these lamps can help. However they need to be powerful enough to as not all lamps are strong enough to give enough light. The NatureBright SunTouch Plus lamp has 10,000 lux of wide-spectrum of white light. In addition the lamp isn't too big so easy to move if you need so.

Because it acts a bit like a false sun you need to use it in the morning if you can rather than late in the evening as much like your computer screen, the use can alter your sleep patterns. However the company dies say use the lamp depending on whether you have difficulties either getting up or going to sleep.

Many people have said that it helps them and they feel more alive and alert within a very short time of using the lamp.

The small size of the lamp makes it very portable and doesn't affect its ability to do it's job.

While the lamp is small and portable, it does need to be plugged in. However, ones with batteries are so much more expensive to buy this is worth it. It is great if you travel a lot as it helps you adjust to your new time zone and has an adaptor that works on all country voltages.

Unlike the other lamps mentioned this one doesn't smell weird.

The other disadvantage that I can see, besides having to plug in, is the timer only allows for 15 minute intervals. I guess the makers think any less isn't worth it, or it is easier to keep track of.

What is strange is it doesn't give out any heat - weird!

I admit I use daylight white light lamps to do my crochet and other crafts with.

Light Boxes for Depression, SAD and Comfort Eating

Having light boxes for depression and SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is becoming ever more popular with people realizing that the winter blues are real.

Although not a weight-loss tool it can help you stop gaining weight as one of the side effects of depression and feeling low that I know all too well is a tendency to overeat sugary things to try and life your mood. I should know my whole family surfers with low Serotonin levels for one reason or another so anything that helps raise the mood is welcome. Do not use it only for this reason though as it is not meant for that, not eating so much surgery stuff it just an added benefit.

The same applies to medication, it may help you avoid anti-depressants as well check with your doctor.

The NatureBright SunTouch Specifications

The sun lamp is very quiet which is music to my ears. To get the full advantage of the lamp you need to be no more than a distance of 15 to 20 inches from the lamp.

If you don't like the smell of the ion/ozone feature you can turn it on or off so you don't have to use it if you don't want to, thought it is great for clearing unpleasant smells.

This light lamp is 10,000 lux lamp which is really the minimum you need to make it worthwhile doing.

Thankfully they have actually supplied a 6 foot long cord which makes life easy and helps with positioning your lamp.
